Connect With All of Us

You’ll often find all of us gathering together informally with food and drink, and we welcome you to join us —

After-Worship Refreshments

On the 2nd Sundays of the month, everyone is invited to join together in the Fellowship Hall (or in the Welcome Center and outside during summer) to enjoy light refreshments, beverages and social chat (a tradition long-time Morningsiders still sometimes call “Parlor”). It’s a nice time to meet visitors and new members, and you can catch up with friends’ activities from the past week. Usually provided by two or more members (or friends) who volunteer each week, these gatherings are also sometimes hosted by our deacons and elders or other formal and informal groups at MPC as a way of publicizing their activities. Send an email to the church office if YOU would like to volunteer to help host this time.

Congregational Lunches

This also follows immediately after Sunday morning Worship service, but periodically our refreshments will take the form of a full meal, and everyone is invited to join the buffet line, find a table and enjoy lunch with friends old and new. Sometimes a short program is involved as part of the lunch. Lunches are usually catered, and a donation of $10 for adults and $5 for children is requested (with a maximum per family of $20 for large families). While we ask those who can plan ahead to attend to RSVP to the church office so that we order an appropriate amount of food, we always order enough to accommodate members and visitors who decide to come at the last moment (so feel free to invite your neighbor in the pew to join us in the Fellowship Hall on these special Sundays). We can always use help with set-up, serving and clean-up, so send an email to the church office if you’d like to volunteer to help.

Morningside Mingle

Held yearly (timing varies, but is announced well in advance), these parties are held in members’ homes as an antidote to the familiar laments “I never have time to really have a conversation at church on Sunday mornings” and “I wish I had a chance to get to know members outside my own circle.” There’s no agenda — it’s just a time to eat, drink and mingle! Watch for announcements on this site (check the Events link), and read the back of the Bulletin on Sundays and the midweek eNews@Morningside email for specific information and updates. If you’re really socially inclined, you can send an email to the church office and let them know you’d like to volunteer to host our next one!

Annual Fall Retreat

Usually held on the third weekend in October, as many members of the congregation as can arrange to be there will head for the mountains for a weekend of fellowship and learning in beautiful Montreat, North Carolina. It’s a time to relax body, mind and spirit while we GROW TOGETHER. Information about specific timing and our guest for the weekend generally becomes available in late summer, with online registration available soon thereafter. You will want to watch for announcements on this site as those dates approach (check the Events link), and read the back of the Bulletin on Sundays and the midweek eNews@Morningside email for specific information and updates as they become available, because you won’t want to miss that opportunity to BE TOGETHER.
