Connect With Other Adults

Morningside offers opportunities for adults to connect in any number of small groups, as well as times when we can all BE TOGETHER and enjoy our diversity. While some of the groups seem to be targeted for men, women or other special interest groups, people with similar interests are always welcome at any group. The gatherings for the groups described here are those that are not planned with children in mind, as much as we dearly love them all.

Arts & Crafts Guild

Anyone with a handicraft can affiliate with this group, which not only encourages the artists and crafters among us but also has a strong service component. Anyone who wants to knit, draw, paint, embroider—whatever!—in the company of others is welcome to spend time together (check the Events link for times), and those whose work isn't flexible or can't meet can still be part of our list of members. The guild anticipates setting time for special projects, such as sewing for women in Mali or making blankets for newborns in Ecuador. In fall 2016, the guild held a silent auction at the church to benefit MPC's Outreach Ministry, to which all artists and crafters were invited to submit their works.

Couples and Friends

Couples & Friends invite all couples to join them for informal dinner gatherings, usually on the second Saturday of each month at 6:00 p.m. Each month, we gather at a host couple's home or a neighborhood restaurant of their choice. Couples of all ages—members and nonmembers, married and partnered, even friends of couples!—are entirely welcome. We attract new couples for the first time almost every month. Watch for announcements on this site (check the Events link), and read the back of the Bulletin on Sundays and the midweek eNews@Morningside email for specific information and updates.

LGBT & Friends

Seeking to enhance and celebrate Christian life for all believers, LGBT & Friends hosts a dinner-and-discussion evening monthly, usually with a guest speaker. Meetings are usually held in a member's home on the second Tuesday of each month. Watch for announcements on this site (check the Events link), and read the back of the Bulletin on Sundays and the midweek eNews@Morningside email for specific information and updates about this inclusive and lively group.

One Gray Hair

If you have one, you're welcome to join this open group for lunch and an informative program at noon in Fellowship Hall (usually on the third Wednesday in January, March, May, September and November). Focusing on food and fun, the group also plans outreach activities. Watch for announcements on this site (check the Events link), and read the back of the Bulletin on Sundays and the midweek eNews@Morningside email for specific dates and presentation topics.

RHO Readers

RHO (Red Hat Optional) Readers is a general book club for all—members, neighbors and friends—who enjoy reading and discussion (you can view the list of books we've read over the past years). There’s no long-term commitment to join and everyone is welcome—even those who haven't actually read the book! The group meets on the third Sunday of each month at 12:30 p.m. (an hour earlier during the summer worship schedule) in the Session Room for conversation and literary musings. Come join us any time!

During meetings, attendees donate to a Pennies for Pages pot to be given to a literacy project at the end of the year. In the past, funds have been donated to The Global Village School in Decatur, the Fugees Academy in Clarkston, and the Mommy & Me program at Memorial Drive Ministries in Decatur, all programs that serve refugee children and meet our goal of increased literacy among refugees and new Americans.

Theology on Tap

Theology on Tap is an MPC men’s group that generally meets at 7:00 p.m. on the third Tuesday of each month for dinner and conversation in various homes. The group provides opportunities to make and meet friends and focuses on various topics and opportunities for participation in MPC’s missions—and having fun together. Watch for announcements on this site (check the Events link), and read the back of the Bulletin on Sundays and the midweek eNews@Morningside email for specific information and updates about when and where they will meet next.

Women’s Roundtable

Women's Roundtable is an intergenerational group that usually meets on the fourth Monday of every month (from September to April) to enjoy good conversation, good food and wine, and great speakers who enlighten us about opportunities to serve. The group formed around the idea that women are thoughtful, passionate, and have stories to tell, and is open and welcoming to women of every age and at every stage in their lives. As with all of our small groups, be sure to watch for announcements on this site (check the Events link), and read the back of the Bulletin on Sundays and the midweek eNews@Morningside email for specific information and updates about when and where they will meet next.
