Created in honor of the late Atlanta arts enthusiast Nancy Walker Frampton, The Nancy Frampton Rising Artists Series is a concert program highlighting the next generation of classical music stars. The series aims to bring exciting new talent from a variety of performance genres. All concerts take place at Morningside Presbyterian Church in Atlanta. Upcoming concert information is listed below, and tickets for our 2023 season are available now! Be sure to join our email list for updates.

Spelman College Glee Club

The famous Spelman Glee Club, under the direction of Dr. Kevin Johnson, will perform for free as part of a fund raising campaign for the Nancy Frampton Rising Artist Series. The women’s Glee Club is the premier performance organization for the College and sings for most campus events. It has had the unique opportunity to perform with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, with world-renowned opera singer Jessye Norman, and as a part of the annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. celebration. Spelman College is celebrating their 100th anniversary in 2024.

 

BARITONE ELEOMAR CUELLO

The opera world has taken notice of Eleomar Cuello. After becoming a 2023 National Finalist at the Metropolitan Opera Laffont Competition, The Met signed him for their 2023–2024 season. A graduate from the Academy of the National Lyric Theatre of Cuba, he began his career while still a teenager with that company performing a variety of roles. His popularity rose exponentially between 2015 and 2020 while living in Chile and performing at the prestigious stages in Chile, Uruguay, Ecuador, France and Nicaragua. Since 2021 he resides in Florida and is in high demand throughout the USA.

 

CELLIST YUNWEN CHEN & PIANIST XiYu Deng

A native of China, Yunwen Chen is establishing her career as an active solo and chamber performer. Yunwen received her Master’s degree from New England Conservatory, studying with Paul Katz. She was a founding member of the Y. trio at Shanghai Conservatory of Music, who won the silver prize at the Fischoff Chamber Music Competition. Two of her chamber music groups received Honors Ensemble at NEC. She is a member of the New England Conservatory Teaching and Performance Fellowship. Yunwen completed her undergraduate studies at Eastman School of Music under the guidance of Alan Harris. She is currently pursuing a Graduate Diploma at New England Conservatory.

Pianist Xiyu Deng began studying the piano at the age of five. She has performed as a soloist throughout Europe, Asia, Australia and the United States at the internationally notable concert halls such as Carnegie’s Zankel Hall, Merkin Concert Hall at Kaufman Music Center in New York City, New England Conservatory’s Jordan Hall in Boston, and Forbidden City Concert Hall in Beijing. She was awarded top prizes at the BNP Paribas ‘Rising Star’ Piano Festival in 2013, New England Conservatory Honors Competition in 2016 and the second prize in Open Class at the 17th Hong Kong-Asia Piano Open Competition in 2012. She pursued her Bachelor of Music degree at the Central Conservatory of Music as a student of Dr. Bo Tong, and Master of Music degree with Mr. Gabriel Chodos at the New England Conservatory. She is finishing her Doctorate of Musical Arts degree under Dr. Joanne Polk at Manhattan School of Music, and is a teaching assistant there in piano.

 

DUO HARPISTS JUAN RIVEROS & SAGE HARRISON

Juan Riveros is one of a new generation of young harpists who bridge a variety of genres and artistic avenues, building audiences and fostering fresh appreciation for an instrument with ancient and diverse traditions. A seasoned performer, Riveros has performed in the 2023 Rio International Harp Festival, various solo recitals through the American Harp Society’s Winner’s Outreach Program, and the 2019 and 2022 USA International Harp Competitions. His numerous honors include Award Winner in the 2022 Lyon & Healy Awards, Outstanding Instrumentalist in Harp at the 2022 and 2023 Sphinx SOPA Competitions, Award Winner in the 2020 Anne Adams Awards Competition, Third Prize in the Young Professional Division of the 2019 American Harp Society National Competition, and Grand Prize in the Lewisville Lake International Concerto Competition. He holds degrees from the Cleveland Institute and is completing PhD work at the university of Michigan.

An up-and-coming Atlantan, Sage Harrison has been part of the Urban Youth Harp Ensemble since 2017 and a member of the Atlanta Symphony Youth Orchestra since 2020. She attended Charles R. Drew Charter School and she studies with Elizabeth Remy-Johnson, Principal Harp of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra.
