ADULT FAITH DEVELOPMENT (SESSION ROOM)
Which major Christian leader was a convict? How much of the Bible was written in prison? How does a Christian respond to the captives in their midst? Join Rev. Beth Waltemath as we discuss why more and more scholars are looking at American history, the progress we've made and the backlash we've discovered and saying the solutions to racism and mass incarceration are spiritual ones. For more background, listen to this interview with Michelle Alexander, author of The New Jim Crow: The School to Prison Pipeline.

THOUGHT OF THE WEEK
Do your little bit of good where you are; it's those little bits of good put together that overwhelm the world. -Desmond Tutu

ARTS SHOWCASE

This Saturday, February 3  come join us for Morningside's Arts Showcase and Cafe. Art gallery and refreshments begin at 5 p.m., followed by the stellar Cafe performances at 6 p.m. There will be folk music, musical theater and spoken word. Who will our MC be? Hint: She's pretty funny. Did you know our nursery worker, Courtney Smith makes art? Bring the whole family and don't miss it! Light refreshments will be provided. For information about being a part of this event, contact Julie Green. This event is organized by the Worship and Arts Committee.

SOUPER BOWL
No, that's not a typo! Immediately after worship this Sunday, February 4, on your way out of the Sanctuary, you're invited to help fill "soup pots" being held by our youth with cash for our annual Souper Bowl of Caring collection to address hunger in our community. Canned goods are also accepted for this event, which has become a nationwide movement.

INTERESTED IN GOING TO EUROPE?
Join Jonathan Crutchfield Sunday, February 4 at 12:15 p.m. in Room 201 to hear about this awesome opportunity. The Choir has been invited in June 2019 to sing in Salzburg, Vienna, and Prague. Non-singers are invited to go. Let's make this a church-wide trip.

YOUTH CHOIR IS BEGINNING AGAIN!
Sixth through twelfth graders, come sing with Shannan O'Dowd beginning Sunday, February 4 at 5:30 p.m. in the Sanctuary. 30 minute rehearsals!

THEOLOGY ON TAP
Our next Theology on Tap for the men of the church will be hosted by Peter Cobb on Tuesday, February 6, at 7 p.m. (1150 St. Charles Place, Atlanta, 30306). If you can attend, RSVP here.

REBECCA'S TENT WOMEN'S SHELTER
Morningside is providing volunteers at Shearith Israel Women's Shelter's: Rebecca's Tent, as part of our mission outreach program. Volunteers are needed Wednesday, February 7 through Sunday, February 11 from 6 to 8 p.m. If you can help, please sign up on the Mission Board outside the church office. Men are welcome to serve. If you have any questions, email Phyllis Grimes. We are also collecting $10 gift cards (Walmart and McDonald's) for Valentine gifts for the women through February 11.

ANNUAL MEETING OF CONGREGATION AND CORPORATION
Plan to stay after worship for a brief business meeting on Sunday, February 11. The purposes will be to vote a change in Baron Mullis' terms of call, receive the approved budget for 2018 and also to receive the 2017 Annual Report. The MPC Corporation will confirm the 2018 slate of officers.

SHROVE TUESDAY PANCAKE SUPPER
As we prepare for Lent, please join us for a pancake supper from 5:30 p.m. to 6:45 p.m on Tuesday, February 13. Children are invited to wear their pjs. We will be collecting underwear, pjs, and socks for THREADS, a children's ministry of All-Saints Episcopal Church, an outreach to folks who need these items for their children. Contact Magan Ward with questions or to RSVP.

HUNGER WALK AND RUN SUNDAY FEBRUARY 25
Morningside has decided to participate in the 2018 Hunger Walk Run, and we are hoping that you'll join our team. Not only will we have a great time, we'll have a great impact against hunger in our community! The money we raise will go a long way toward helping our neighbors in need. And the need is great right now. More than 1 in 4 Georgia children now live in a home where hunger is a regular worry.
We hope that you will join us for this family friendly mission event.
