The early Christians rejoiced when they were deemed worthy to suffer for what they believed. In those days the Church was not merely a thermometer that recorded the ideas and principles of popular opinion; it was a thermostat that transformed the mores of society. - Martin Luther King, Jr., Letter from the Birmingham Jail
Join us in thanking Drew and Ellen Stockstill for all their years of service! Help send the family off with your well wishes on Sunday, July 31 following worship.

Thank you to everyone who volunteered last Saturday, and thank you to everyone who has donated food. MPC's current food collection totaled 210.4 lbs!!
Due to low summertime supplies at the Atlanta Food Bank, ICM is having difficulty stocking its shelves with protein.  Urgent needs are tuna, salmon, and chicken (in can or foil pack).  Other ready-to-eat meals such as canned ravioli, beef stew, etc., are also perfect for those living on the street.  Please consider a donation of these items during this impromptu collection (through July 24) at MPC. Bring your donations to the Welcome Center baskets.  Contact Nancy Collins ncollins0209@gmail.com, 678.634.4572 with questions.

MPC will partner with John Wesley Dobbs Elementary for a teacher appreciation luncheon on July 27. If you want to contribute to the table decorations which will be school supplies, contact Lynn Daniel lgd1@bellsouth.net

Morningside will host the Young People's Sacred Harp Singing Convention Saturday, July 30 at 9 a.m.  People from southern states will come together to sing hymns using the "Sacred Harp" style.  The convention welcomes folks of all ages and attracts the typical inter-generational cohort.  The name can cause a bit of confusion, but have no fear:  everybody is welcome - including those with "some chronological age!" You do not have to know how to sing using shape notes. Contact Jesse Karlsberg jesse@jpkarlsberg.comfor more information.
Help us make it a great school year for all the children in our community!  The Children's Ministry Mission Team is sponsoring a back-to-school event for children whose parents or caregivers frequently patron the ICM food pantry.  We need backpacks, paper, notebooks, folders, rulers, crayons, pencils, and pens.  Please drop your donations in the blue bin located in the Welcome Center.  If your child would like to help distribute school supplies and/or help lead games and crafts on Saturday, July 30 from 1 to 2 p.m., contact Elizabethsommerfeld@gmail.com
Are you missing those weekday/weeknight opportunities to learn and build faith? Morningside member Jennye Guy will offer a special five-week study concentrating on the work of the Holy Spirit as reflected in Acts and our lives today. You can attend either Monday evenings or Wednesday mornings at 11 a.m. Watch for more details!

This year's gala concert will include choirs of every age singing the music of Rodgers and Hammerstein. Children's rehearsals are Wednesdays July 27, August 3 and 10. Dress rehearsals are Wednesday, August 17 and Friday, August 19 for full cast and singers. The concert is Saturday, August 20.  Youth and adults will rehearse with the Chancel Choir on Wednesdays.
