THOUGHT OF THE WEEK

Religion is more like response to a friend than it is like obedience to an expert.       - Austin Farrer

CHRISTIAN EDUCATION AND MISSION
Additional components to our Standing and Serving for Generations campaign involve providing additional support to our Christian Education and Mission programs. This is a church that is alive with promise and possibility, made possible in part by the arrival of new families in recent years. We are committed to investing in the spiritual foundation of our young people with a one time programmatic investment as well as enhancing the classrooms of our children and youth.
Just as alive as we are inwardly, we are truly a church that looks out into the surrounding community and world to spread our spirit, service and welcome. We must invest at a level beyond what is allocated in our operating budget which will allow us the flexibility to respond to the call we have as a mission based congregation. Through this fund, our Mission Committee will have the opportunity to support and serve those they identify as being in need, while also having the opportunity to plan and look ahead to those people, places and programs that could benefit from our gifts of time and resources.
As you think toward Pledge Sunday, March 15, please keep in mind that your gift, payable over the next three years, will not only help provide for the children and youth that are here but for those to come as well as others outside our church community in need.

THEOLOGY ON TAP
Men of Morningside mark your calendars for the next TOT to be hosted by Peter Cobb tonight, March 3 at 7 p.m. (1150 St. Charles Place, 30306).  RSVP to the church office office@morningsidepc.org.

FREE ORGAN RECITAL SATURDAY, MARCH 7
Another up-and-coming young professional organist will demonstrate both his range and versatility and that of our Wicks-Coulter pipe organ this Saturday, March 7, at 4 p.m. Join us as we welcome Patrick Pope, Organist and Director of Music at The Episcopal Church of the Holy Comforter in Charlotte, NC; as well as University Organist at Queens University of Charlotte, where he also teaches in the Department of Music, Theatre, and Dance. His selections for the MPC recital range from Bach to a trio of American composers. He'll also play works by Johann Walther, Cesar Franck and Charles-Marie Widor. Everyone is welcome to come and bring a friend. Please join us.

MEDITATION AND BOOK DISCUSSION GROUP
Morningside's Meditation and Discussion Group continues Sunday, March 8, at the home of Pam and Ken Sharpe (1700 Timberland Road, Atlanta, 30345) at 5:30 p.m. A light dinner will be served and then meditation practice and discussion of Jim Marion's book, "Putting on the Mind of Christ."  RSVP to kensharpe@bellsouth.net.

PARTICIPATE IN FOCUS GROUPS
Morningside's Evangelism/Communications Team is interested in learning how our communications vehicles are being used and is interested in discovering opportunities for improvement. Consider participating in a 1-hour focus group to share your valuable input on Monday, March 9: 6-7 p.m., age 50+; 7:15-8:15 p.m., age 18-49; 8:15-9:15 p.m., all ages. To participate, please contact Jeff Peters 404.731.9291 or jeffcpeters@gmail.com.

OUR HOUSE
MPC and MPP are partnering to collect diapers (all sizes), baby wipes and gently used spring and summer clothing for children, infant through 5 years old, for Our House, the preschool in Decatur and shelter in Atlanta that serves families facing homelessness. Please place your items in baskets in the Welcome Center and the Preschool entrance through March 27.

SIX STAR REFUGEE FAMILY UPDATE
Robin, the father in the Masih family from Pakistan, is in great need of a job, ideally in the construction or warehousing fields. He is an experienced heavy equipment and fork lift operator but is willing to do any kind of work that will earn him enough money to support his family. He now has a car, so he can travel to work sites. If anyone has contacts in such companies or with temporary construction staffing agencies, please contact Holly Campbell at hollycampbell1@gmail.com or 404.435.0676.  (P.S. If you contacted Holly in October about this, please get in touch again as the circumstances have changed.)
