THOUGHT OF THE WEEK

You just hold your head high and keep those fists down. No matter what anybody says to you, don't you let 'em get your goat. Try fightin' with your head for a change. - Atticus Finch

INCREASING OUR FINANCIAL INDEPENDENCE
One of the larger initiatives of our capital campaign, Standing and Serving for Generations, is to increase our financial independence. Our previous campaign, A Time of Promise, which ushered in an era of significant growth in membership and stewardship, had some unexpected construction costs that forced the church to borrow $800,000. As we celebrated recently, advanced giving to the current campaign allowed us to retire a portion of this debt with a balloon payment at the end of 2014. There is still an outstanding loan in the amount of $535,000 which is serviced through our annual budget. This campaign allows us to eliminate all of the church's debt and frees up about $52,000 per year in our annual budget. The money that is freed up will allow us to begin our next phase of growth as we seek to call a senior- level staff member to lead our Church Education Ministry, which will align our staffing with the size of the congregation, engage people more deeply and enhance our program offerings. The distribution of campaign packets will continue this Sunday before and after worship in the Narthex.

ANNUAL SHROVE TUESDAY PANCAKE SUPPER
On Tuesday, February 17, everyone is invited to celebrate Shrove Tuesday at our Pancake Supper and Pajama Party (children invited to wear their pajamas) in Fellowship Hall from 5:30 to 6:45 p.m. Enjoy dinner while Bill Packard - The Magic Man - delights kids and adults with his tricks and antics! Shrove Tuesday is the kickoff of our Lenten Coins for Children Offering which benefits Children's Healthcare of Atlanta. Contact Brooke Williams brookeowilliams@gmail.com with late RSVPs or to volunteer for the clean-up shift 6:30-7:30 p.m.

DONATE PAJAMAS FOR CHILDREN
Through today, February 17, we are collecting new pajamas, socks and underwear for Threads, a children's clothing ministry of All Saints Episcopal Church.  All children's sizes, infant through elementary age are welcome. Bring your donations to the baskets in the Welcome Center or to the Fellowship Hall at the Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper on February 17.

MEN'S BREAKFAST
Come join us for breakfast and fellowship this Wednesday, February 18 at 7 a.m. in Fellowship Hall. Coffee, a good breakfast, devotional and encouraging, lively discussion - what better way to recharge midway through the week?  Contact Allen Burke allen_n_burke@hotmail.com to RSVP or with any questions.

ASH WEDNESDAY
All are invited to join us for worship including the imposition of ashes this Wednesday, February 18 at 7 p.m. Child care is provided in the nursery.

YOUNG ADULTS HOST WORKSHOP ON
STRENGTHENING RELATIONSHIPS IN FAITH

The Young Adults invite the MPC community to a covered dish supper and free workshop on building strong marriages and partnerships, this Thursday, February 19 from 6:30-9 p.m. led by Pastoral Counselor and Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, Dr. Doyle Hamilton. The workshop will use John Gottman's book, "Seven Principles for Making Marriages Work." Please bring something for the covered dish supper. RSVP to Drew Stockstill dstockstill@morningsidepc.org.

MORNINGSIDE 'NEWBIES' ARE INVITED TO MINGLE
If you joined our church during 2014 and would like to spend a little 'adult time' over dinner with other new members, our staff and deacons, you are invited to the home of Sarah and Peter Chatel (4588 Pine St. Smyrna 30080) this Saturday, February 21. RSVP to the church office@morningsidepc.org.

CONGREGATIONAL SOCIAL HOUR MARCH 1
WILL BE ALL ABOUT BABY STOCKSTILL

Drew and Ellen Stockstill are expecting their first child, a baby girl, sometime around the end of March. The congregation is invited to celebrate with them during our social time after worship on March 1. This isn't a shower, exactly-simply a time to rejoice and celebrate with Drew and Ellen. Should you want to provide a gift, the Stockstills are registered on "BabyList" ( http://babyli.st/ baby-stockstill). Consider grouping up to get something.  Gift cards are also a great help. Amazon, Target, and Whole Foods are favorites, so Drew and Ellen could select items they find they need but do not already have. For more information, contact Cindy Humphries cindy52@bellsouth.net or Sarah Brownlee rsbrownlee1046@att.net.

CONGRATULATIONS TO:
Katye and Alex Watts on the birth of their daughter, Finley Logan Watts, on February 12.
