The Aids Alliance for Faith and Health
AIDS Alliance for Faith and Health (AAFH) provides services and support designed to enhance the quality of life and extend long-term survival for people living with HIV disease. AIDS Alliance for Faith and Health was established in November 2006 through the merger of two of Atlanta’s longest serving AIDS service organizations – AIDS Treatment Initiatives (ATI) and Atlanta Interfaith AIDS Network (AIAN). AAFH strives to enhance quality of life through a variety of health-based programs (originally established by ATI) and faith-based programs (previously offered through AIAN), along with new and emerging programs that provide the highest standard of care. Through a unique blending of health-based and faith-based perspectives, AAFH seeks to meet the needs of the whole person, providing compassionate and integrative care to persons infected with and affected by HIV disease.
Common Ground
Common Ground's purpose: To provide daily spiritual, emotional, and practical support to HIV and AIDS patients in a community setting. Each weekday, a group of 40-50 individuals join together for a presentation and communal meal.
Morningside’s participation:
On the second Tuesday of each month, Morningside Presbyterian provides the lunch. This is an opportunity for us to serve as well as build community with a wonderful group of people. This summer, we are also collecting coffee supplies to restock supplies needed for daily gatherings.
How you can get involved:
You can help provide food for the shepherd to bring to AAFH. On the Sunday before each visit, empty disposable pans will be left on the table outside of the sanctuary. Each pan will have a food category on it, like "dessert" or "salad" or "entree". Then just deliver the pan to Morningside, filled with the requested food, on Monday evening or Tuesday morning by 10:00 a.m. The shepherd will pick up the food on their way to AAFH on Tuesday morning. Our next date is July 14. Together, we can provide an important service to members of our community in need, and in so doing witness to the compassion and mercy of God.
Starting July 5, bring coffee supplies as requested to the baskets in the narthex. Their current needs are for ground, caffeinated coffee and individual creamers.
We are also currently looking for a shepherd for this outreach. Contact Community Outreach Chair Anne Barnette at 404.881.9616 to volunteer to be a shepherd or an occasional driver.
