Atlanta Community Food Bank

Founded in 1979, the Atlanta Community Food Bank provides food and other donated products to more than 750 nonprofit partner agencies serving 38 counties across North Georgia centered on the Metro Atlanta area. Distributing these donations to low-income Georgians, partner agencies provide dynamic links between the local community, the Food Bank and our supporters.

Morningside’s participation:

Morningside provides 15 volunteers quarterly to sort food items at the Food Bank's reclamation center. A picture of those who sorted on January 21 is on the Volunteers at Work page.

How you can get involved:

Volunteer for one of our Saturday sorts. Sorting lasts from 9:00 - 12:00 Saturday morning. This is a great activity for a family. (Children must be 8 years old) 2008 dates: April 19, July 19, and October 18.

The Morningside congregation also supports ACFB by filling 4 barrels from mid-November to mid-December. Be sure to pick up a recommended items list and bring yours canned food to church during these weeks.
On Super Bowl Sunday each year, Morningside chooses ACFB as the recipient of the donatiosn collected by youth on Sunday morning. Better known as “Souper Bowl” Sunday, this national effort invited congregants to make a $2 donation towards fighting hunger on the day of the big game!
