TREASURER’S NOTE

As you review your year-end giving, consider appreciated stock or, if you’re over 70 1/2, your IRA for favorable tax treatment. If you need to know what is still outstanding on your 2017 pledge or your Capital Campaign pledge, email Bill Humphries at bill48@bellsouth.net

WHOLENESS AND HEALING SERVICE

We welcome friends and family to Morningside’s Service of Healing and Wholeness on Sunday, January 7 at 7 p.m.

ASSIST WITH CHILDREN

Children of all ages are always welcome in worship, but we do offer childcare during our services for infants through kindergarten for those parents who wish it. We’re in need of volunteers to spend that time, especially with our Pre-K/Kindergarteners. No planning is required—activities are provided and the main responsibility is play. Contact Mardee Rightmyer (mrightmyer@morningsidepc.org) to volunteer so we can have enough helpers so no one has to miss worship every week.

MUSIC MINISTRY

Our music ministry will be adding handbell players starting in January. Rehearsals are Thursday evenings, 7:30 - 8:30 p.m. starting Thursday, January 4. The handbells play during worship service every six weeks. Please reach out to Jeff Peters (jeffcpeters@gmail.com) or Jack Klotz (jacksklotz@gmail.com) to be a part of Morningside’s handbell music ministry.

VOLUNTEERS IN THE OFFICE

The office is looking for someone to donate an hour of their time once a week to cover the desk (preferably during the lunch hour). If you or someone you know is interested please contact us at office@Morningsidepc.org

PRESCHOOL DINE OUT COMING SOON

Morningside Presbyterian Preschool is excited to partner with Doc Chey’s (Morningside location) for a new kind of Dine Out. Eat at Doc Chey’s anytime (lunch or dinner, dine in or take out) from Monday, January 15 - Sunday, January 21. Be sure to tell them you are supporting MPP and they will give 25% of sales to the Preschool. Such an easy and fun way to support programs, materials and property improvements for the children attending MPP. The preschool will have a few age group gatherings Tuesday - Thursday evenings, but everyone is welcome at any time!

REGISTRATION FOR 2018-19 SCHOOL YEAR AT MPP

Early registration opens Tuesday, January 16 for returning students, siblings and church members. The application form is available to be printed from the website (lower left of MPC homepage) and turned in with $100 registration fee to Director Melinda Sandkam no later than Friday, January 26. SHEARITH ISRAEL’S WOMEN’S SHELTER

Morningside is providing volunteers at Shearith Israel’s Women’s Shelter, Rebecca’s Tent, as part of our mission outreach program. Volunteers serve from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. warming up the dinner meal (provided by other volunteers) and serving on paper plates as the women arrive from their daily work or job searches. The kitchen is cleaned up before leaving. The dates that we have committed to provide volunteers are Wednesday, January 10 - Sunday, January 14 and Wednesday, February 7 - Sunday, February 11. Please sign up by posting your name/ e-mail address on the Mission Board. You will receive a reminder a week prior to your commitment indicating who is working with you, the SI street address, etc. Men are welcome to serve also. Please e-mail Phyllis Grimes with questions (grimes2230@bellsouth.net). Also, we will be collecting $10 gift cards (Walmart, McDonald’s) for Valentine gifts for the homeless women in January.

CREATED BY GOD

Preteens are growing physically, mentally, emotionally, socially, and spiritually at a rapid pace (or are agonizing over why they aren’t growing as rapidly as they feel they should be). “Created by God” is a study of human sexuality with a Christian foundation commissioned by the United Methodist Church specifically for fifth and sixth grade students and their parents. It offers both an opportunity to learn, grow, and celebrate the fact that we have each been wonderfully created by God, and are called to responsible living as sexual beings. “Created by God” involves a weekend commitment for parents and young people, Thursday, February 8, through Saturday, February 10. “Created by God” ministry provides an arena where accurate information and proper terminology can be gained and practiced. Young persons participating will better understand how their sexuality fits into God’s vision for human relationships. Using a highly interactive approach to learning, “Created by God” is also a lot of fun for everyone involved.

Melissa Lerner, M.Div. candidate at Candler Theological Seminary and former Associate Director of Children’s Ministry at Dunwoody United Methodist Church, will be leading the program. Melissa trained with the writer and developer of the “Created by God” curriculum and has led workshops around the Southeast. The fee for this event is $45 per family, covering the cost of the book, supplies, food (dinner on Friday, lunch on Saturday, and snacks), and leadership. (Please plan to participate regardless of the fee-- we will cover all participants.) Deadline to register is Monday, January 15. To sign up, register here:
