COMMITMENT SEASON HAS BEGUN

The annual Commitment Season has begun at Morningside, and we are grateful for the exciting faith opportunities before us. We look forward to journeying together in 2018 as we worship together, serve together, and grow together. Our pledges allow Morningside’s leaders to plan for next year’s salaries, facility maintenance, mission work, children and youth programs and more. This year, we hope to increase our pledges by 10 percent in order to reach our goals in 2018. We ask that you prayerfully consider your family’s pledge for 2018 and join us as we pledge support on Sunday, October 29.

NOMINATE TODAY

We are seeking your nominations for Elders for the Session and Deacons for the Board of Deacons. Nomination forms will be in the bulletin, the Narthex, and the Welcome Center. You can turn in nomination forms to the church office, the offering plate or in one of the boxes in the Narthex and Welcome Center.

ICM UPDATE

Great News! MPC Youth will fill our 12 volunteer slots on Saturday, October 14. MPC’s next scheduled food pantry date is Saturday, December 9. More details will follow as we get closer to that date.

NEW ADULT FAITH DEVELOPMENT
SERIES STARTS OCTOBER 15

As an observant Jew, everything Jesus demonstrated and taught about the Kingdom of God was understood by his hearers and disciples through the filter of their culture and history. Appreciating that filter adds a critical, rich layer to our understanding of the Bible. Join us as we study The Jewish Jesus. This will be a four-week study of Jesus’s cultural and religious contexts, both as a person and as God’s Messiah.

CORO VOCATI

Atlanta’s professional choral ensemble, Coro Vocati will be in concert Sunday, October 15 at 3 p.m. at Peachtree Road United Methodist Church. Two parts of the hour long concert will include three compositions by Jake Runestad that are based on the writings of naturalists John Muir and Wendell Berry; and a rarely heard composition by Hungarian composer, Zoltan Kodaly. Tickets are $15.00 at the door. MPC is well represented in this choir by Brandon Odom, Shannan O’Dowd, Alex Masten and Jonathan Crutchfield.

READING AT DOBBS ELEMENTARY

We will begin our reading at Dobbs Elementary School for the fall school year on Wednesday, October 18 at 11 a.m. Because of Hurricane Irma, our start date was delayed, but the good news is that you’re able to still participate! The once-a-month hourly meetings will be on the second Wednesday starting in November. If you would like to sign up to be a part of this important outreach, contact Baron at Baron.Mullis@morningsidepc.org

MONTREAT

There are few things so enjoyable as a hot cup of coffee on a cool autumn morning on the porch of the William Black Lodge in the North Carolina Mountains with your family around you… so you won’t want to miss our congregational retreat from Thursday, October 20 - Sunday, October 22. Registration forms are available in the Narthex and Welcome Center. Turn them in to the church office with an attached check.

FOOD TRUCKS

Invite your friends and neighbors to join us on Thursday, October 26 for our final Food Truck event for the year. The Food Trucks will arrive at Morningside at 5 p.m. and the festivities will begin at 5:30 p.m. Come out for amazing food and to get better acquainted with the Morningside community. If you are interested in volunteering, please arrive early to help set up and/or stay later to help clean up. We are thankful for any help.

UPCOMING MUSIC EVENTS

Join MPC’s Chancel Choir on Saturday, October 28 at 7 p.m. for the Reformation Concert at Peachtree Road United Methodist Church. During the concert, a Free-Will offering will be taken. Also, on November 5 at 11 a.m., the Chancel Choir will present John Rutter’s “Requiem” as part of the All Saints Sunday service. Join us for both of these events.

PLEASE HELP

Bienfait is in great need of a new job and any work on the weekends he can get. He is a painter and carpenter and can do other construction-related work. If anyone has a connection to a full-time job or has work at their own home he might be able to do, please contact Holly Campbell at hollycampbell1@gmail.com or Sandy Ryan at amSr@outlook.com
