Life@Morningside for August 20, 2017

WORSHIP THIS SUNDAY

Welcome to worship at Morningside Presbyterian Church.

Beth Waltemath, Associate for Mission and Faith Development is our preacher and Baron Mullis, Senior Pastor is our liturgist.

• Large print hymnals and Bibles as well as hearing aids are available; ushers will gladly assist.

• Please complete the information in the Friendship Pad at the end of the pews and pass the pads down and back again during the Concerns portion of worship.

• Children are welcomed and encouraged in worship every Sunday. Worship bags for children can be found in the Narthex. Those who wish to attend Sunday School may do so after the Peace of Christ.

• Childcare for 0-23 months is in Room 105, and Room 012 for 2 and 3 year olds.

• Pre-K/K are in room 001.

DOBBS IS COUNTING ON YOU

Please support our partnership with Dobbs Elementary School as the teachers prepare for the new school year. We are collecting items to stock their classrooms and student incentive closet. Please see the list of requested items on the Mission bulletin board.

A LITTLE HELP NEEDED FROM FRIENDS

Do you have any early reading games or electronic toys laying around? Bienfait Kinumbe is looking for some exposure to the building blocks of reading, and it would be very helpful to provide him with a Leapfrog or similar device to use on his own time. He is still learning the phonetics of the alphabet and the English label for each letter, so any activities related to those skills are especially pertinent.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

We’re beginning our remodeling project at Clifton Shelter this week and next Tuesday, August 22, we need 2 or 3 manly volunteers who can help with some demolition. All of the really hazardous stuff will have been done, so this is more just on the lines of Habitat-type work. But if someone is really frustrated and needs to take out some aggression using a claw hammer, this is for them! Please contact Lloyd Prince lloydprince@comcast.net if you have any questions or can volunteer.

MORNINGSIDE SINGS! MATINEE

Over the past three years we have established a tradition through the Morningside Sings! galas of bringing a large audience of members and visitors into our church home, and we did it again last night! If you missed out on the performance or simply wish to see it again, there will be another show this afternoon at 3 p.m. We hope to see you there!

MEALS ON WHEELS

We are in need of one or more volunteers for midday Meals on Wheels delivery in our Morningside-Virginia Highland neighborhood. The route takes about one hour or less, depending on traffic. Pick up is at First Presbyterian Church in Midtown. If you would like to volunteer (or if you already volunteer and would be willing to take another day), please contact Sarah Brownlee at 404-876-3572 or rsbrownlee1046@att.net. The open days are first and third Fridays and second Wednesdays.

ARE YOU AN ANDROID PRO?

Don’t worry neither are we, BUT if anyone is familiar with Android phones, particularly Samsung, please help! We need you to help Bienfait with a problem he’s having with his phone. He needs help deleting items in his storage. If you have any questions please call Holly Campbell at 404-435-0676.

CHILDREN’S CHOIRS BEGIN THIS WEEK

Children’s Choirs begin Wednesday, August 23. All children ages 5 through 5th grade are invited to join a choir on Wednesday nights from 6 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Our new children’s director, Shannan O’Dowd leads the 2nd-5th graders and Jonathan Crutchfield leads the 5, 6, and 7 year old choir. Show up in the fellowship hall at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, August 23 and have fun singing with us. For more information, contact Jonathan jcrutchfield@morningsidepc.org
