Life@Morningside for August 13, 2017

WORSHIP THIS SUNDAY

Welcome to worship at Morningside Presbyterian Church.

Baron Mullis, Senior Pastor is our preacher and Mardee Rightmyer, Director of Children’s Ministries is our liturgist.

• Large print hymnals and Bibles as well as hearing aids are available; ushers will gladly assist.

• Please complete the information in the Friendship Pad at the end of the pews and pass the pads down and back again during the Concerns portion of worship.

• Children are welcomed and encouraged in worship every Sunday. Worship bags for children can be found in the Narthex. Those who wish to attend Sunday School may do so after the Peace of Christ.

• Childcare for 0-23 months is in Room 105, and Room 012 for 2 and 3 year olds.

• Pre-K/K are in room 001.

FLOWERS THIS SUNDAY

The flowers today are given to the Glory of God in loving memory of my parents Corlie and Janie Ward by Sandra Ward.

HAPPY 91ST BIRTHDAY

We honor Robert Gray who turned 91 today. Please join us during Fellowship hour as we celebrate Robert with cake and lemonade/punch.

CONTINUE TO SUPPORT DOBBS

Please support our partnership with Dobbs Elementary School as the teachers prepare for the new school year. We are collecting items to stock their classrooms and student incentive closet. Please see the list of requested items on the Mission bulletin board.

WE RISE BY LIFTING OTHERS

Do you have a double stroller and rain cover that you can donate to Georgine Kinumbe-Bauma? If so, please contact Katye Watts. Also, do you have any early reading games or electronic toys laying around? Bienfait Kinumbe is looking for some exposure to the building blocks of reading, and it would be very helpful to provide him with a Leapfrog or similar device to use on his own time. He is still learning the phonetics of the alphabet and the English label for each letter, so any activities related to those skills are especially pertinent.

UNTIL NEXT TIME...

Today we say goodbye to Taylor Morton who has been a chorister in every level of choir at Morningside Presbyterian Church. From his youngest boyhood days to this moment as an entering college freshman, Taylor has let his voice be heard through the music ministry at this church. We wish him the best as he enters Mercer University and look forward to those times when he can visit and sing with us again. The Chancel Choir sends him and all our entering freshmen with our best wishes.

MONTREAT

Join us for a family friendly experience at Montreat from Friday, October 20 to Sunday, October 22. The Reverend Paul Roberts, President of Johnson C. Smith Theological Seminary will be our guest speaker. Please pick up a registration form in the Narthex and return your completed form with an attached check to the office.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

You don’t have to be perfect to make a difference in someone’s life. You just have to care. Join Morningside on Saturday, August 12 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. as we help out at Intown Collaborative Ministries to distribute food to homeless and in-need folks in our area. Contact Laura Ulep, Lauraulep@gmail.com or Nancy Collins, ncollins0209@gmail.com to join the team.

MAKE A NEW FRIEND

Make a new friend at Dobbs Elementary School as we hang out and read with second and third grade students beginning Wednesday, August 16 at 11 a.m. This is a once a month opportunity that we don’t want you to miss. Contact Baron, baron.mullis@morningsidepc.org, if you would like to be a tutor.
