Life@Morningside for August 6, 2017

WORSHIP THIS SUNDAY

Welcome to worship at Morningside Presbyterian Church.

Baron Mullis, Senior Pastor is our preacher and Beth Waltemath, Associate for Mission and Faith Development is our liturgist.

• Large print hymnals and Bibles as well as hearing aids are available; ushers will gladly assist.

• Please complete the information in the Friendship Pad at the end of the pews and pass the pads down and back again during the Concerns portion of worship.

• Children are welcomed and encouraged in worship every Sunday. Worship bags for children can be found in the Narthex. Those who wish to attend Sunday School may do so after the Peace of Christ.

• Childcare for 0-23 months is in Room 105, and Room 012 for 2 and 3 year olds.

• Pre-K/K are in room 001.

FLOWERS THIS SUNDAY

The flowers today are given to the Glory of God in celebration of the life of Richard Allen Stack by his family.

BOOKS ARE AVAILABLE

Our pastor Rev. Dr. Baron Mullis has written a book titled Like An Ever-flowing Stream: Sermons of Call, Response, Vocation, and Love. This book, currently available, is a collection of sermons in one anthology. Get your copy today.

CHRISTIAN SYMPATHY

Our Christian sympathy is extended to Brandon Odom on the passing of his grandmother, Dora Nell Graham; Lauren, Elizabeth and David Fairleigh on the passing of David's brother Paul Fairleigh; and JoAnn and Terry Kearns on the passing of JoAnn’s father. Please join us in surrounding Brandon Odom, JoAnn and Terry Kearns along with the Fairleigh family during this time of grieving.

WE RISE BY LIFTING OTHERS

We’re happy to say a second location of the Mommy and Me preschool and adult literacy program for refugee families is set to open later this month. Our friend and church member, Georgine Kinumbe-Bauma will be a student with her kids, Dorcas and Ezekiel. The location is within walking distance of her apartment at The Lakes but the roads are busy. It will be easier for her to get to class and back with the donation of a double stroller and rain cover. If you have either to donate, contact Katye Watts. Also, do you have any early reading games or electronic toys laying around? Bienfait Kinumbe is looking for some exposure to the building blocks of reading, and it would very helpful to provide him with a Leapfrog or similar device to use on his own time. He is still learning the phonetics of the alphabet and the English label for each letter, so any activities related to those skills are especially pertinent. Literacy will open up many opportunities for Bienfait and his family.

MONTREAT

Don’t miss out on a fabulous experience at Montreat from Friday, October 20 to Sunday, October 22. The Reverend Paul Timothy Roberts Sr., President of Johnson C. Smith Theological Seminary will be our guest speaker. This is a family friendly event--bring your children! Please pick up a registration form in the Narthex and return your completed form with an attached check to the office.

SUPPORT DOBBS

Please support our partnership with Dobbs Elementary School as the teachers prepare for the new school year. We are collecting items to stock their classrooms and student incentive closet. Please see the list of requested items on the Mission bulletin board.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

You don’t have to be brilliant, rich, beautiful or perfect to make a difference in someone’s life. You just have to care. Join Morningside on Saturday, August 12 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. as we help out at Intown Collaborative Ministries to distribute food to homeless and in-need folks in our area. Contact Laura Ulep, Lauraulep@gmail.com or Nancy Collins, ncollins0209@gmail.com to join the team.

MORNINGSIDE SINGS!
