Life@Morningside for July 16, 2017

WORSHIP THIS SUNDAY

Welcome to worship at Morningside Presbyterian Church.

Beth Waltemath is our preacher and Mardee Rightmyer, Director of Children’s Ministries is our liturgist.

• Large print hymnals and Bibles as well as hearing aids are available; ushers will gladly assist.

• Please complete the information in the Friendship Pad at the end of the pews and pass the pads down and back again during the Concerns portion of worship.

• Children are welcomed and encouraged in worship every Sunday. Worship bags for children can be found in the Narthex. Those who wish to attend Sunday School may do so after the Peace of Christ.

• Childcare for 0-23 months is in Room 105, and Room 012 for 2 and 3 year olds.

• Pre-K/K are in room 001.

FLOWERS THIS SUNDAY

The flowers today are given to the Glory of God in memory of Jack Douglas Potter by the Potter family.

FIRST FRIENDS

First Friends is a program that will pair current MPC members with those who have recently joined our church family. After someone joins the church, you as a First Friend will keep the new members informed about special events and programs the church offers. Also you will introduce our new friends to other members of the congregation. If you or your family would be interested in participating or learning more about the program, please give your name to one of the deacons.

FRESH FLOWERS

Would you like fresh flowers in worship? Would you like to celebrate a birthday, anniversary, new baby or the life of a friend? If so then please see the sign up sheet for flowers on the bulletin board outside of the Session Room. Pick the date, sign your name, write your email and phone number or contact Georgia Marshall, gkmarshall@gmail.com, or Lynn Daniel, lgd1@bellsouth.net, for details.

GALA EQUIPMENT NEEDED

Does anyone have 8 ice cream or wooden cabaret chairs we could borrow for the gala? Light weight would be great. If so please contact Shari Tant at sdtant51@gmail.com

THERE’S A PRESCHOOL OPENING

As families move, Morningside Presbyterian Preschool has had openings become available for one 3-year-old student and one PreK student. Tell your friends and neighbors to grab them up quickly. Contact Melinda Sandkam at 404.685.8758 or mpp@morningsidepc.org today. We also have a few openings for each week of summer camp still available.

PICK-A-PAN

Join in to help prepare a dinner for the men at Clifton Shelter on Saturday, July 22. Please Pick-a-Pan from the Narthex on Sunday, July 16 and bring your dish to the Clifton Shelter by 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 22. Contact Ann Watson at atwatson@mindspring.com or at 404.273.9515 if you have any questions. We will have a great time sharing the evening with these men, however it is not necessary for you to stay.

SOCIAL MEDIA IS BUZZING

Morningside wants to connect to the community more than ever! Are you handy when it comes down to Twitter and Instagram? If so, our communications team would like to expand MPC’s reach on social media and could certainly use your help! Volunteer to be a part of the communications team by contacting Daisy Ottmann dazette@bellsouth.net

A ONCE PER MONTH COMMITMENT

On Wednesday, July 26 the teachers return from their summer break to prepare for their students’ return… and as in years past, we want to celebrate and appreciate them with a “back to school” luncheon on their first day. If you would like to contribute to decorations and/or help with the luncheon, please contact Leslie Prince. If you’d like the privilege of shaping the life of a child as a tutor (a once/month commitment) Baron Mullis is your contact. For any other questions, speak to shepherd Leslie Prince.

HELP WITH RIDES

Help the Kinumbe-Bauma family with their transition here in the States with something as simple as offering a ride. The Sign-Up Genius has been updated to include dates in July. Since the worship service changed to 10 a.m., the pick-up time will be 9:30 a.m. Please consider giving the Kinumbe-Bauma family a ride and helping them get to know one more member of their church community. www.signupgenius.com/go/409044ca5aa28a3ff2-rides

DONUT DAYS

Join us for Donut Days Sundays throughout this month with Mardee beginning at 9:15 a.m. Children’s Ministries will provide light refreshments in the playground and picnic area so that Mardee can meet the families of the church. Families are encouraged to join us for at least one of these. It’s a great time for children to get a snack and run off some steam before worship at 10 a.m.

COLLECTION FOR DOBBS ELEMENTARY

Please support our partnership with Dobbs Elementary school as the teachers prepare for the new school year. We are collecting items to stock their classrooms and student incentive closet. Please see the list of requested items on the Mission bulletin board or on the church website under the “Serve” link. The deadline for items is Sunday, July 30 when we will host Principal Dr. Charnita West for our Minute Message.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

We are in need of volunteers Saturday, August 12 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Intown Collaborative Ministry pantry to distribute food to homeless and in-need folks in our area. The pantry is located at McIver Hall beside Druid Hills Presbyterian Church near the corner of Highland and Ponce. Please contact Laura Ulep at Lauraulep@gmail.com or Nancy Collins at ncollins0209@gmail.com if you are interested in helping.
