Life@Morningside for July 9, 2017

WORSHIP THIS SUNDAY

Welcome to worship at Morningside Presbyterian Church.

Rev. John Sawyer is our preacher and Baron Mullis, Senior Pastor is our liturgist.

• Large print hymnals and Bibles as well as hearing aids are available; ushers will gladly assist.

• Please complete the information in the Friendship Pad at the end of the pews and pass the pads down and back again during the Concerns portion of worship.

• Children are welcomed and encouraged in worship every Sunday. Worship bags for children can be found in the Narthex. Those who wish to attend Sunday School may do so after the Peace of Christ.

• Childcare for 0-23 months is in Room 105, and Room 012 for 2 and 3 year olds.

• Pre-K/K are in room 001.

FIRST FRIENDS

First Friends is a program that will pair current MPC members with those who have recently joined our church family. After someone joins the church, you as a First Friend will keep the new members informed about special events and programs the church offers. Also you will introduce our new friends to other members of the congregation. If you or your family would be interested in participating or learning more about the program, please give your name to one of the deacons.

FRESH FLOWERS

Would you like fresh flowers in worship? Would you like to celebrate a birthday, anniversary, new baby or the life of a friend? If so then please see the sign up sheet for flowers on the bulletin board outside of the Session Room. Pick the date, sign your name, write your email and phone number or contact Georgia Marshall, gkmarshall@gmail.com, or Lynn Daniel, lgd1@bellsouth.net, for details.

THERE’S A PRESCHOOL OPENING

As families move, Morningside Presbyterian Preschool has had openings become available for one 3-year-old student and one PreK student. Tell your friends and neighbors to grab them up quickly. Contact Melinda Sandkam at 404.685.8758 or mpp@morningsidepc.org today. We also have a few openings for each week of summer camp still available.

WELCOME TO THE WORLD!

The pink rosebud on the lectern today is to celebrate the birth of Marian Joan, daughter of Kathleen and Knox Wilmer. She was born Wednesday, June 28 and weighed 9 pounds 5 ounces.

JULY 14

Mark your calendars. It’s Bastille Day AND Couples Group, gathering at 7 p.m. this Friday evening.

WHAT QUESTIONS DO YOU WRESTLE WITH?

While I normally preach the lectionary as a means of providing a stable calendar for all the church staff to make plans, this fall I want to depart from that practice at least some of the time. Once our Second Sundays@8:45 resume, I will make it a habit to preach on that Sunday on the texts that the children are learning in Sunday School. But I’m also interested in hearing from you in relation to what’s on your mind. What faith questions perplex you? What do you intend to ask God when you get the chance? What do you wish the church could help you understand? Is there a Bible Story that bugs you? Put your questions on a slip of paper and put it the in “The Questions We Ask” box in the Welcome Center. I’ll form the most popular questions into a sermon series for the fall. I do have a few caveats, though: I won’t be partisan, so don’t waste paper asking. ;-) I won’t address design flaws in the human body either. But aside from that, the world’s your oyster. I want to hear from you, and I promise to take my best crack at an answer. At a minimum, we’ll ask some good questions in the process. Of course, for anything confidential, you can always e-mail me at baron.mullis@morningsidepc.org

SOCIAL MEDIA IS BUZZING

Morningside wants to connect to the community more than ever! Are you handy when it comes down to Twitter and Instagram? If so, our communications team would like to expand MPC’s reach on social media and could certainly use your help! Volunteer to be a part of the communications team by contacting Daisy Ottmann dazette@bellsouth.net

HELP WITH RIDES

Help the Kinumbe-Bauma family with their transition here in the States with something as simple as offer-ing a ride. The Sign-Up Genius has been updated to include dates in July. Since the worship service changed to 10 a.m., the pick-up time will be 9:30 a.m. Please consider giving the Kinumbe-Bauma family a ride and helping them get to know one more member of their church community. http: www.signupgenius.com/go/409044ca5aa28a3ff2-rides

DONUT DAYS

Join us for Donut Days Sundays in July with Mardee beginning at 9:15 a.m. Children’s Ministries will provide light refreshments in the playground and picnic area so that Mardee can meet the families of the church. Families are encouraged to join us for at least one of these. It’s a great time for children to get a snack and run off some steam before worship at 10 a.m.

MOMMY AND ME VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

MPC is having a one day work project on Saturday, July 15 to renovate space for the new Mommy and Me facility at Memorial Drive Presbyterian Church. Our work will help secure a spot for our new member Georgine Kinumbe-Bauma. Mommy and Me is a popular women’s refugee literacy program which also provides child care and enrichment while the students are learning. We will be painting as well as replacing ceiling tiles in the entryway. Easy work for adults and teens but could use some experience with ceiling tile work! Contact Holly Campbell at hollycampbell1@gmail.com for further details and to sign up.
