FLOWERS GIVEN TODAY

The flowers today are given to the Glory of God for Drew Stockstill’s faithful and dedicated service to Morningside Presbyterian. Blessings of grace go to Drew, Ellen and Lydia Grace as they move into their future life together.

BE THOU MY VISION

Drew asked me to create an arrangement highlighting the ways in which he has had an impact on my life. I have chosen the following music, with brief explanation for each:

That’s What Friends Are For–Drew has been first and foremost a great friend to all!

For The Beauty Of The Earth—“For the joy of human love, brother, sister, parent, child; friends of earth and friends above” - Drew’s friendship and love shine!

When In Our Music God Is Glorified—Drew’s love of all the arts, specifically theater, has shown itself in all of his sermons.

Be Though My Vision—Drew’s vision for ministry, particularly in mission, has been abundantly clear.

Here I Am, Lord—Drew is ready to serve as he is called.

God of Grace & God of Glory—Drew has always used humor effectively. My pastor father, who also used humor in his sermons, loved this hymn (especially when it opened the service) in which the last phrase of the first verse proclaims “Grant us courage for the facing of this hour.” Drew’s humor will always take him far!

THE SESSION HAS CALLED A CONGREGATIONAL MEETING

The congregation will meet following worship on Sunday, August 7th for purpose of formally concurring with Rev. Drew. Stockstill’s request to the Presbytery of Greater Atlanta that his call as associate pastor to Morningside Presbyterian Church be concluded and the pastoral relationship dissolved. This is a required procedural vote of the congregation.

SPECIAL THANK YOU FROM DOBBS ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

The faculty and staff of J.W. Dobbs Elementary School would like to thank MPC for their delicious “Welcome Back” luncheon. Their Media Center was transformed into an area where education was celebrated and educators were appreciated! Not only did the congregation nourish their bodies, but Baron fed their souls with words of encouragement. The school supplies that were donated will be distributed to students who need those tools the most.

STARTING THE SCHOOL YEAR OFF RIGHT

Help us make it a great school year for all the children in our community! The Family in Missions team is sponsoring a back-to-school event for children whose parents or caregivers frequently patron the ICM food pantry. Please donate school supplies! You may drop your donations off in the blue bin located in the welcome center. If your child would like to distribute school supplies and/or help lead games on Saturday, July 30 from 1 to 2 p.m. please contact Elizabethsommerfeld@gmail.com

GET READY FOR BIBLE STUDY!

While individual study is certainly encouraged in Christian circles, the truth for many of us is that we need to dialog about what we are hearing and reading to come to a deeper understanding of God. Come and learn about the Holy Spirit’s work with the people of Acts in your choice of Monday evening or Wednesday morning Bible studies beginning August 1 at 7 p.m. or August 3 at 11 a.m. Please let Jennye jennyeguy@earthlink.net know whether you’ll attend the evening or morning sessions, so that she'll have the right number of materials prepared.

GALA CONCERT AUGUST 20

What makes this year’s gala different from before? All age groups are included! Children's rehearsals are Wednesdays August 3, and 10. Dress rehearsals are Wednesday, August 17 and Friday, August 19 for full cast and singers. The concert is Saturday, August 20. Youth and adults will rehearse with the Chancel Choir on Wednes-days. Come be a part of this exciting fun-filled event!

JOIN THE HANDBELL CHOIR

Morningside is calling all musicians who would be interested in becoming a part of our music ministry. Positions are currently available in Morningside’s Handbell Choir. Rehearsals commence Thursday evenings starting on September 1 from 7:30—8:30 p.m. If you are interested in playing during the 2016-2017 season, please contact Jeff Peter jeffcpeters@gmail.com or 404.731.9291.

RHO READERS BOOK SALE IS AROUND THE CORNER

Just when we thought we were done reading for the summer, a book sale arrives! RHO Readers is hosting their annu-al book sale that kicks off Sunday, August 21 and you will not want to miss it. Everyone is invited! This is a great opportunity to stock up on reading material for the fall, supply local free libraries, and get new stories for the kids in your life. Proceeds benefit literacy among immigrant children.

FOOD TRUCKS ARE BACK!

Yes, you heard correctly. Food trucks are com-ing back and we can’t wait! Join us on Thursday, August 25 from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. as we eat, mix and mingle with friends and family in the community. Please do not hesitate to bring guests. Feel free to help set up tables before the festivities begin, and/or put chairs and tables away afterwards. Jeff Peters and the Evangelism team will greatly appreciate it!
