VOLUNTEERS ARE NEEDED

We are in need of volunteers to help out in the pantry at ICM Saturday, July 9th. Hours are 10 a.m.—1 p.m. at Druid Hills United Methodist on Ponce de Leon. Responsibilities will include greeting and interviewing guests for food needs, packing groceries, and distributing them to the needy guests. Contact Laura Ulep at lauraulep@gmail.com if you would like to help.

URGENT FOOD COLLECTION

Due to low summertime supplies at the Atlanta Food Bank, ICM is having difficulty stocking its shelves with protein. Urgent needs are tuna, salmon, chicken in a can or foil pack. Other ready-to-eat meals such as canned ravioli, beef stew, etc. are also perfect for those living on the street. Please consider a donation of these items during this impromptu collection at MPC today through Sunday, July 24. We will have a designated area in the Welcome Center. Please contact Nancy Collins ncollins0209@gmail.com or 678.634.4572 with any questions.

SCHOOL SUPPLY DRIVE COMING SOON!

Help us make it a great school year for all the children in our community! The Family in Missions team is sponsoring a back-to-school event for children whose parents or caregivers frequently patron the ICM food pantry. We need backpacks, paper, notebooks, folders, rulers, crayons, pencils, and pens. Please drop your donations off in the blue bin located in the welcome center. If your child would like to help distribute school supplies and/or help lead games and crafts on Saturday, July 30 from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m., please contact Elizabethsommerfeld@gmail.com

CHILDREN’S MINISTRY VOLUNTEERS

Volunteers and teachers are needed for all age groups within Children's Ministry for the upcoming school year. In the fall we will be rolling out new Christian Education programs for birth through 5th Grade and we need leaders to be a part of it! Commitments would be for various Sundays. The Children's Ministry Committee will provide ample resources and training for all volunteers. If you are interested in being a part of new and exciting faith development for the children of Morningside Presbyterian Church, please contact sarahkate@morningsidepc.org

GALA CONCERT AUGUST 20

We are calling all children, youth and adults who are interested in being a part of an amazing concert! This year’s Gala concert will include choirs of every age singing the music of Rodgers and Hammerstein. Those wanting to sing in the Gala concert should contact Jonathan Crutchfield jcrutchfield@morningsidepc.org today. Children’s rehearsals are Wednesdays, July 27, August 3 and 10. Dress rehearsals are August 17 and 19 for full cast and singers. The concert is Saturday, August 20. This is an event you won’t want to miss!

SACRED HARP SINGING CONVENTION

Saturday, July 30 beginning at 9 a.m., our church will host the Young People’s Sacred Harp Singing Convention. This is a regional convention from southern states. Please join us as we sing together hymns using the Sacred Harp style. You do not have to know how to sing using shape notes. Contact Jesse Karlsberg at jesse@jpkarlsberg.com for more information.

The name of the Young People’s Sacred Harp Singing Convention actually refers to its “officers,” the people who open and close the singing, offer prayers, and take minutes. All of those officers each year are singers under 35 years of age. This is a regional convention comprised of people primarily from the southern states who will join together to sing hymns using the Sacred Harp style.

Many of those who helped organize the singing in its early years have continued to be involved in organizing and participating in singings, even helping to establish singing schools such as Camp Fasola and contributing songs to the most recent edition of The Sacred Harp. The convention welcomes folks of all ages and attracts the typical inter-generational cohort. The name can cause a bit of confusion, but have no fear: everybody is welcome—including those with “some chronological age on us”!

INTOWN'S CLOTHING CLOSET

ICM needs supplies at its Clothing Closet! They offer interview, work, and casual clothing (for men and women) and are located on the back side of Druid Hills Presbyterian Church (1026 Ponce de Leon Ave). Clothing donations can be dropped off Mondays from 10:15 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. or by appointment with Rev. Allen at allen@intowncm.org. Needed items include: shirts, t-shirts, pants, underwear, white socks, casual shoes, sweaters and hoodies, sweatshirts and pants.
