Life @ Morningside for August 30, 2015

WORSHIP THIS SUNDAY

Welcome to worship at Morningside Presbyterian

Church. Baron Mullis, Senior Pastor, will

be our preacher, and Drew Stockstill, Associate

Pastor, will be our liturgist. Jane Arant is

our guest organist. Please complete the information

in the Friendship Pad at the end of the

pews and pass the pads down and back again during

the Concerns portion of worship. Worship

notebooks and books for children are in the library.

Nursery for infants and toddlers is in

Room 105; 2-3 year olds are in Room 012. Children

ages 2-10 are invited to leave after the

Peace of Christ for special classes: Fours and

fives are in Room 011, and K-5th grade is in

Room 001. All elementary-age children are invited

to attend worship next Sunday, September 6.

SACRAMENT OF BAPTISM

This morning Abigail Ward, daughter of Magan

and Daniel Ward, will receive the sacrament of

baptism.

CONGREGATIONAL MEETING

Plan to remain in the Sanctuary after worship this

morning for a brief meeting to vote on the terms

of Associate Pastor Drew Stockstill's call. This is

one of the few reasons the congregation is asked

to meet, so please spare a few minutes for this

important aspect of church membership.

SUNDAY SCHOOL KICK- OFF

The children are heading back to school, so it’s

time to kick off our new Sunday School year. If you

have a little one age 18 months through fifth grade,

please join us in the Fellowship Hall on Sunday,

September 13 at 10 a.m. for face painting, crafts,

dress-up games, and light refreshments. For those

children moving into a new classroom, we will escort

them to their new room at 10:55 a.m. If you

or your youth-aged child would like to help with

this event, please contact Liz Sommerfeld at

elizabethsommerfeld@gmail.com.

THINKING ABOUT JOINING MORNINGSIDE

Morningside will offer visitors the following opportunities

to learn more about our church. On

Sunday, September 13, we will hold an Inquirers

Class followed by a New Members Class on Sunday,

September 20. Both will be held in the Session

Room at 9:45 a.m. For more information or to

register, please contact Baron Mullis

404.876.7396, ext. 11;

New Orleans from Wednesday, November 4

through Sunday, November 8. We will work

with Rebuilding Hope in New Orleans (RHINO),

an urban outreach ministry of St. Charles Avenue

Presbyterian Church. There is a place for everyone

at the RHINO worksites, including homebuilding

with Habitat for Humanity, working in

community gardens, volunteering at food banks,

and other activities with RHINO community

partners. We will stay at the Brent House Hotel

in New Orleans (cost will be approximately $250

per person). Contact Roland Behm

(roland.behm@mail.com, 404.217.5514) for

more information or to indicate your interest in

participating. Registration deadline is Monday,

September 14.

Faith Development at Morningside

ADULT
Interested in studying the Bible but don't know where to start or worried you just won't understand? Morningside's own Jennye Guy will lead a two-week class to help us take the first step. With the help of reference works and methods of study, we can read and study the Bible and uncover many of its layers of meaning for ourselves. This class is a brief, summary introduction to Bible study that will, hopefully, whet attendees' appetites for studying and exploring the Bible on their own. Using the book of 1 John as a teaching example, an overview of one system of study--The Inductive Method--will be presented. This class will meet at 9:45 a.m. in Room 201.

CHILDREN
Preschool children will engage in hands-on activities about color and light as follow-up for Blue and Green and Purple Too!
