WORSHIP THIS SUNDAY

Welcome to worship at Morningside Presbyterian

Church. Baron Mullis, Senior Pastor,

will be our preacher. Please complete the

information in the Friendship Pad at the end of

the pews and pass the pads down and back

again during the Concerns portion of worship.

Worship notebooks and books for children are

in the library. Nursery for infants and toddlers

is in Room 105; 2-3 year olds are in Room

012. Children ages 2-10 are invited to leave after

the Baptism for special classes: Fours and

fives in Room 011; K-2nd grade in Room 001;

3rd-5th grade in Room 005.

FLOWERS IN THE SANCTUARY

The flowers today are given to the glory of God

in honor of Nick Bremer Korb’s birthday by

Kathy, Alan and Scott Bremer.

SACRAMENT OF BAPTISM

This morning Finley Logan Watts, daughter of

Katye and Alex Watts, will receive the sacrament

of baptism.

SERVICE MUSIC

Air from Suite No. 3—J. S Bach composed four

orchestral suites, also called ouvertures, during

his time in Leipzig, Germany. Their dates range

from 1724-1745 and come to us from various

sources. The third suite, BWV 1068, comes

from several autographs with the first violin and

continuo parts in Bach’s hand, the trumpet,

oboe, timpani in from C.PE. Bach, and Johann

Ludwig Krebs wrote the second violin and viola

parts. The Air is the second movement and is

one of the most famous pieces of the Baroque

period.

THORNWELL OFFERING

This morning, July 26, we invite you to participate

in a special offering for Thornwell Home

for Children. This is a Presbyterian home in

Clinton, South Carolina where at least 100 children

from infants to teenagers stay each

year. Some stay for only a few months, others

grow up at Thornwell. During Mission Camp,

our attendees decorated the envelopes found in

your bulletins. Please give generously to this

special offering - cash or checks to MPC with

"Thornwell" in the memo line.

ICE CREAM SOCIAL

Today following worship, Mission Camp attendees

will host Fellowship. You are invited

to come and enjoy ice cream and hear about

Mission Camp week. And as a bonus, we

have added a talent show to our Calvin Court

Senior Community visit and hope to share

one of the acts at the Social.

A NOTE FROM DREW STOCKSTILL

I am in Montreat, North Carolina working on

the leadership team for the final two weeks of

the Montreat Youth Conference. This is part of

the PC (USA) requirement that pastors contribute

in service to the larger church. Over 1,000

high schoolers will attend these two weeks of

the Youth Conference. I will return August 8

and would appreciate your prayers for the conference.

FAREWELL TO MASON COPELAND:

Next Sunday, August, 2, Fellowship Hour

will be an opportunity to say “Best wishes”

to Mason as he embarks on his new career at

The Westminster Schools. Please come

down and enjoy an opportunity to express

our thanks and well-wishes to Mason and Lis.

fills each year, so please contact Melinda

Sandkam at mpp@morningsidepc.org immediately

if you are interested in this opportunity.

MARK YOUR CALENDARS

While in the Presbyterian tradition, the

work of preaching is assigned to the clergy,

Christian faith has a long history of testimony.

On August 23, our popular series, This

I Believe continues with three Morningside

members speaking about their faith and

what shapes their core values.

SHALOM CHURCH WORKDAY

On Saturday, August 29 there will be a joint

congregation workday to support Shalom

International Ministries, a new church development

of the Atlanta Presbytery serving

a primarily refugee community. Work will

be from 1 to 5 p.m. followed by dinner and

a square dance from 5 to 7 p.m. The address

is 5140 Memorial Drive, Stone Mountain

30083. For more information contact Lloyd

Prince lloydprince@comcast.net.

SUNDAY SCHOOL KICK- OFF

Sunday School Kick-off will be on

September 13 this year, a little later than

usual. Mark your calendars now! This will

be the date that children move up to their

new age groups.

OUR SYMPATHY TO

John and Nancy Hamilton on the death of

their son Brett on July 19. A memorial service

is planned for Saturday, August 8, at 2

p.m. at Morningside Presbyterian Church.

A reception will follow.

ALL CHURCH RETREAT

Save the dates for our annual retreat to

Montreat. We’ve reserved the weekend

of October 16-18 in the North Carolina

mountains. Our guest speaker will

be The Reverend Paul Roberts, President

of Johnson C. Smith Seminary.

The early registration deadline will be

at the Congregational Lunch on August 23.

Faith Development at Morningside

ADULT

As citizens of both a world of science and the kingdom of God, many of us struggle to integrate what we learn from scientific advances against what we learn from scriptures, confessions and other aspects of our faith. “Science and Faith,” co-led by Carol Senf and Sarah Tomaka, meets each week in Room 201 at 9:45 a.m. (each week stands alone). The class covers faith seeking understanding through science, the cosmos, the story of life, human beings, brain and mind, and technology and the future.

CHILDREN

The Pre-K Class will hear the story Lions and Bears and learn how young David protected the sheep in his care.
