Life @ Morningside for July 12, 2015

WORSHIP THIS SUNDAY

Welcome to worship at Morningside Presbyterian

Church. Drew Stockstill, Associate

Pastor, will be our preacher, and James

Klotz will be our liturgist. Please complete the

information in the Friendship Pad at the end of

the pews and pass the pads down and back again

during the Concerns portion of worship. Worship

notebooks and books for children are in

the library. Nursery for infants and toddlers is

in Room 105; 2-3 year olds are in Room 012.

Children ages 2-10 are invited to leave after the

Peace of Christ for special classes: Fours and

fives in Room 011; K-5th graders in worship.

SERVICE MUSIC

Composer Jacques-Nicolas Lemmens (1823-

1881) began his successful career by winning

the famous Prix de Rome in 1847. Later in

1849, Lemmens was appointed organ teacher

at the Royal Brussels Conservatoire where he

taught students such as Alexandre Guilmant

and Charles Marie Widor. This spritely fanfare

in D major consists of two contrasting sections.

The first is played on the Grand Orgue

division with full registration and pedal. The

second is played on the smaller Récit division

with the expression shades closed and resembles

a march-like section. After a return to the

fanfare theme, the piece closes with arpeggios

that extend the full range of the organ.

Faith Development at Morningside

ADULT

This class meets each Sunday at 9:45 a.m. in Room 201. We will continue to follow our guided series of discussions on current topics. “Science and Faith” will be co-led by Carol Senf and Sarah Tomaka. As citizens of both a world of science and the kingdom of God, many of us struggle to integrate what we learn from scientific advances against what we learn from scriptures, confessions and other aspects of our faith. Each week stands alone and will cover faith seeking understanding through science, the cosmos, the story of life, human beings, brain and mind, and technology and the future.

CHILDREN

The Preschool Class will learn about Jonah’s underwater adventure as they hear A Big Fish Story.
