Life @ Morningside for June 28, 2015

WORSHIP THIS SUNDAY

Welcome to worship at Morningside Presbyterian

Church. Baron Mullis, Senior Pastor,

will be our preacher, and John Blevins

will be our liturgist. Please complete the information

in the Friendship Pad at the end of the

pews and pass the pads down and back again

during the Concerns portion of worship. Worship

notebooks and books for children are in

the library. Nursery for infants and toddlers is

in Room 105; 2-3 year olds are in Room 012.

Children ages 2-10 are invited to leave after

the Peace of Christ for special classes: Fours

and fives in Room 011; K-5th graders in Room 001.

SERVICE MUSIC

All the organ music for today is from the Romantic

period but from different countries. Joseph

Rheinberger (1839-1901) was born in

Liechtenstein but moved to Munich at an early

age to pursue advanced training in theory, organ

and piano. His organ sonatas and concertos

are considered his most outstanding works,

and are reminiscent of Mendelssohn and

Brahms.

Leon Boëllmann (1862-1897) was a French

composer. He moved in the best circles of the

French musical world in Paris and was known

as a dedicated teacher, gifted composer and

successful performer.

Samuel Sebastian Wesley (1810-1876), the

grandson of Charles Wesley, was born in London.

He was organist at several of England's

large cathedrals, and was famous in his lifetime

as one of his country's leading organists and

choirmasters. He composed almost exclusively

for the Church of England.

MISSION CAMP UP NEXT

With 21 attending this year’s Mission Camp,

July 20-24, we will need 5 drivers per day to

make it to our outreach locations. Contact

Melinda today to let her know which day(s) -

full day or morning or afternoon - you would

be able to help us out. The first morning,

Monday, July 20, we will be here at MPC,

but need two more chaperones (no driving

required). These roles are all lead volunteers

which requires background and driving

checks, so please sign up early so we can get

everyone set. See our Mission Camp bulletin

board across from the Session Room 103 for

more detailed needs.

MPP

The preschool ABC’s of Summer Camp still

has a few openings in 3s, 4s, and 5s the next

five weeks of camp. This camp is designed for

summer fun with weekly themes. For more

information, email Sarah Tomaka at

mpp@morningsidepc.org.

YOGA

June is here, and we have proceeded into our

summer Yoga and Weights sessions. There is

still time to join the group, though. For more

information, contact Pam Sharpe

yogapam@bellsouth.net. The class will have a

long vacation for the month of August in order

to start refreshed in September.

COUPLES GROUP

You won’t want to miss an evening at Emilie

Paille and Jeanne McCarthy’s home on

Friday, July 10 at 7 p.m. (1413 Northview

Ave. 30306.) Menu and other details will

follow, but mark your calendar and let us

know if you’re able to attend! RSVP to

Kathy and Alan Bremer 404.403.3266,

kdbremer@bellsouth.net. We will hiatus in

August and get back together September 11.

Hosts are needed for the second Friday of

September, November and December. The

Framptons will host in October.

CLIFTON WELCOME HOME BASKETS

It’s that time of year again that we collect

household items that make up the Welcome

Home Baskets for the men of Clifton Sanctuary

Ministries. The items will be collected

over the next several weeks at which point

the baskets will be assembled by this year’s

Mission Camp attendees. There is a bulletin

board at the entry way with slips of paper

listing the items needed. Simply take the

slips for the items you wish to provide and

return the items to the Welcome Center by

July 12. If you have any questions, feel free

to contact David Johnston at 617.233.2004

or dmjohnst@gmail.com.

FAMILIES SERVING JOURNEY IN JULY

In the spirit of Mission camp, please join the

Smith-Nix family in serving a meal to the

men of Journey Shelter on Sunday, July 12

at 6:45 p.m. We will first share the joy of

serving a meal to the 30 men of Journey,

and afterwards parents and kids are welcome

to share a meal and fellowship together

at Fellini's Pizza on Ponce. Please look

for a sign-up sheet on the Mission bulletin

board or contact Shepherd Tamara Nix

about your interest in participating in this event

(Tamara Nix, tamaranix@alumni.duke.edu, 404.805.8955).

SANCTUARY FLOWERS

A flower calendar is posted on the bulletin

board in the hallway outside the Session

Room, and if you wish to give flowers in

honor or in memory of a loved one, we invite

you to write your name and phone

number next to the desired date. It is possible

to share a date with other members if

you want to give one arrangement or you

may sign up alone to give both arrangements.

Contact Anna Best in the church office

office@morningsidepc.org for more information.
