WORSHIP THIS SUNDAY

Welcome to worship at Morningside Presbyterian

Church. Drew Stockstill, Associate

Pastor, will be our preacher, and Baron

Mullis, Senior Pastor, will be our liturgist.

Please complete the information in the Friendship

Pad at the end of the pews and pass the

pads down and back again during the Concerns

portion of worship. Worship notebooks and

books for children are in the library. Nursery

for infants and toddlers is in Room 105; 2-3

year olds are in Room 012. Children ages 2-10

are invited to leave after the Peace of Christ

for special classes: Fours and fives in Room

011; elementary age in worship today.

SERVICE MUSIC

Nicolas de Grigny (c.1672-1703), a loved composer

of the French Baroque organ tradition,

was known for his setting of the Catholic Mass in

5 hymns. This setting of Veni Creator Spiritus

comes from his collection Premier livre d’orgue

originally published in 1699. The genre En taille

à 5 indicates that there are 5 voices with the tune

in the Taille or tenor voice. The long pedal notes

sing the tune over the ornamented filigree.

PENTECOST BANNERS

We recognize Pentecost as the beginning of

Christ’s church. Titled “Anointing Power”, the

pair of banners at the front of the sanctuary

make use of batik fabrics in red, gold and yellow.

The movement in the fabrics conveys the

power and energy of the Holy Spirit coming upon

the apostles and tongues of fire inspiring and

enabling the start of the church. This Living

Spirit that moved on that first Pentecost continues

to move in our midst and in our souls across

all boundaries and through-out all time.

CHURCH OFFICE

The Church Office will be closed tomorrow,

May 25 in observance of Memorial Day.

STOCK SENIOR EMERGENCY PANTRY

Each May, we collect requested items for the

emergency pantry at Calvin Court Senior Community.

This is often utilized at the end of the

month when finances run short for seniors.

Please bring your items to the baskets in the

Welcome Center today. Current prioritized

needs are: canned fruit, paper towels, toilet paper,

tissues, crackers; less needed but still welcome:

tuna fish, soups (low sodium also helpful),

canned vegetables.

THANK YOU

There are not adequate words to express my deepest

gratitude for the love, generosity and thoughtfulness

that went into the ten weeks of celebrating my 10th

year here at MPC. Every gift was very much

appreciated and Sunday's touching recognition in

worship, delicious and fun lunch with music, and

basket of memories which also included a very

generous love offering were overwhelming. Thank you

from the bottom of my heart. - Melinda Sandkam

VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL

During ‘Around the World in 5 Days’ Vacation Bible School

June 15-19 will be traveling by plane, train, boat, hot air

balloon and space shuttle to help those in need. Volunteers

still needed for lots of 1-3 day tasks (serving snacks,

childcare for younger siblings, running one day activities).

Please see VBS donation display for items needed for snacks.

And, we welcome any luggage as props. Please bring them

to Room 003. Sign up today!

IT’S NOT ALL ABOUT ME!

Mission Camp registration deadline is next Sunday, May 31

(for completed 2nd-6th graders). This five day experience for

hands-on outreach for our children is July 20-24. We welcome

volunteers willing to chaperone and drive to locations of projects.

Please check your calendar now for a half or whole day and help

us make this a great opportunity for our children.

SING WITH THE CHOIR SUNDAY

Have you ever wanted to sing with Morningside’s

Chancel Choir? Join us on June 14 for our

annual “Sing with the Choir” Sunday! To prepare

for worship, we will rehearse Wednesday,

June 10 from 7:30 to 8:15 p.m. We then meet

on Sunday morning at 9:30 a.m. If interested,

email our Choirmaster masoncopeland@morningsidepc.org.

We hope to see many participants - come and bring a friend!

SUMMER CHILDREN’S WORSHIP

Memorial Day weekend to the first weekend in

August, we combine our elementary-age classes

to include children who have just completed

Kindergarten-2nd grade and 3rd-5th

grade. Leaders will include parent volunteers,

Amy Howell and Melinda Sandkam. The older

class attends worship on first Sundays and all

elementary ages are invited to attend on May 24

and July 5. (See our refreshed and replenished

children’s worship books in the library. We

welcome your creativity in decorating our cover

pages.) All other age groups remain the

same. Children are invited to “move up” to new

age groups on Sunday School Kick Off in August.

sponsor and care for this dog, please contact

Pam Sharpe at yogapam@bellsouth.net. For
