WORSHIP THIS SUNDAY

Welcome to worship at Morningside Presbyterian

Church. Baron Mullis, Senior Pastor, will

be our preacher, and Drew Stockstill, Associate

Pastor, will be our liturgist. Please complete

the information in the Friendship Pad at the

end of the pews and pass the pads down and back

again during the Concerns portion of worship.

Worship notebooks and books for children are in

the library. Nursery for infants and toddlers is in

Room 105; 2-3 year olds are in Room 012. Children

ages 2-10 are invited to leave after the

Peace of Christ for special classes: Fours and

fives in Room 011; K-1st grade in Room 001;

2nd-3rd grade in Room 003; 4th-5th grade in

Room 005.

 

SACRAMENT OF BAPTISM

This morning the following will receive the sacrament

of baptism: Jason Bryan, Benjamin Curtis,

Austin Dean, Emma Louise, and Clara Ann Johnson-

Rogers. All are children of Brian Johnson and

Bryan Rogers.

 

SERVICE MUSIC

Today’s anthem With Songs of Rejoicing comes for

Bach’s cantata Denn du wirst. American composer

Hal H. Hopson, in this imitative fashion, arranged

it for two-part choir. The text is adapted from

Psalm 98. The form is ABA with a small coda to

end the work.

 

VBS WORKDAY

Our first workday for Vacation Bible School will

be from 9 a.m. to 12 noon this Wednesday,

May 13. Contact Melinda msandkam@morningsidepc.org

to let her know if you could help with projects for

an hour or three.

 

ONE GRAY HAIR

This Wednesday, May 13 at 12 noon Melinda

Sandkam will share about her recent experience at

the Women's Lambing Weekend through Heifer

International, including visits to the ranch, education

center and national headquarters in Arkansas

and information about the programs Heifer supports

worldwide. This will be our last lunch and

program until the fall. RSVP to Sarah and Richard

THEATER FUNDRAISER

Enjoy the performance of Vanya and Sonia and

Masha and Spike, at The Horizon Theater Company

(1083 Austin Ave. 30307) this Wednesday,

May 13 at 8 p.m. to benefit the Shearith Israel

Shelter for Women (100% of ticket proceeds support

shelter). $40 general admission (job stipends

for four women in job training programs) or $100

includes a reception at 7 p.m. (8 weeks of a MARTA

card for one woman). Purchase tickets with

LYDIA CIRCLE

Our next Lydia Circle will be held this Thursday,

May 14 at El Taco (1189 North Highland) from

MEDITATION GROUP

Morningside's Meditation and Discussion Group

will meet next Sunday, May 17, at 5:30 p.m. at

the home of Ken and Pam Sharpe (1700 Timberland

Road, 30345). We will continue our discussion

of Jim Marion's "Putting on the Mind of

Christ." A light dinner will be served. RSVP to

LGBT & FRIENDS

The final meeting before summer hiatus of

LGBT & Friends will be Tuesday, May 19. The

evening's guest speaker will be Baron Mullis

who will discuss "The Ongoing Work of Inclusion

in the Church." All are welcome to join

us for fellowship, dinner and an enriching discussion

from 7 to 9 p.m. in the Fellowship

STOCK SENIOR EMERGENCY PANTRY

Each May, we collect requested items for the

emergency pantry at Calvin Court Senior Community.

This is often utilized at the end of the

month when finances run short for seniors.

Please bring your items to the baskets in the

Welcome Center before May 24. Current prioritized

needs are: canned fruit, paper towels,

toilet paper, tissues, crackers; less needed but

still welcome: tuna fish, soups (low sodium also

helpful), canned vegetables.

 

VBS AND MISSION CAMP REGISTRATION

Don’t forget to mark June 15-19 on your calendars

for Vacation Bible School for four year

olds by September 1 through 5th grade. Mission

Camp is July 20-24 for those who have

completed 2nd through 6th grade. Registration

forms are on the church website and bulletin

boards (scholarships available). Final

registration deadline for VBS is May 17

and May 31 for Mission Camp.

 

FIRST ANNUAL MPC GOLF CLASSIC

You are invited to join other MPC members

and friends on Wednesday, June 17 at the

Marietta City Club. There will be men’s and

women’s divisions. Tee off at 1 p.m. Lunch

will be available in the grill from 11 a.m. to

1 p.m. The practice range and putting greens

will be available. At the conclusion of the

event, we will return to the grill to award

prizes. The cost is $55 per person which includes

18 hole greens fee, range balls, and golf

cart. Registration forms (deadline is May 19)

are available in the Welcome Center. For

SING WITH THE CHOIR SUNDAY

Have you ever wanted to sing with Morningside’s

Chancel Choir? Join us on June 14 for our annual

“Sing with the Choir” Sunday! To prepare for

worship, we will rehearse on Wednesday, June

10 from 7:30-8:15 p.m. We then meet on Sunday

morning at 9:30 a.m. If you are interested,

We hope to see many participants - come and bring a friend!
