11 A.M. WORSHIP

THE GATHERING

Leader: The Lord be with you.

People: And also with you.

THE PRELUDE  Voluntary in D  William Boyce

*THE CALL TO WORSHIP

Leader: To my sisters and brothers I will speak of your glory:

People: O Lord our God, how majestic is your name!

Leader: In the great congregation I will sing your praise:

People: O Lord our God, how majestic is your name!

- Psalms 8:1,9; Hebrews 2:12

*THE PROCESSIONAL HYMN 423  Jesus Shall Reign Where’er the Sun  DUKE STREET

THE CALL TO CONFESSION

THE PRAYER OF CONFESSION

You gave us commandments, God of love, because you knew the hardness of our hearts. You have created us to live in community, and still we oppress others and separate ourselves from each other and you. Jesus loved the children, but there are still children in the world who live in hunger or fear, rejected and unloved. Forgive us, and call us to faithfulness. Bind all your children together as sisters and brothers, and nurture us with your love and forgiveness, that we might share what we have been given, and receive your kingdom with the wonder and gratitude of children. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

A MOMENT OF SILENCE (for examination of conscience and personal prayers of confession)

THE ASSURANCE OF PARDON

Leader: Jesus said, Let the children come to me.

People: Just the same, God receives us with grace, welcome and love.

Leader: Though we do not deserve it, believe the promise of the Gospel.

People: In Jesus Christ, we are forgiven.

*THE CONGREGATIONAL RESPONSE  (Hymn 391)

Take my will, and make it thine; it shall be no longer mine. Take my heart, it is thine own: it shall be thy royal throne, it shall be thy royal throne.

*THE PASSING OF THE PEACE

Leader: The peace of the Lord Jesus Christ be with you all!

People: And also with you.

THE ANTHEM  Mothering God, You Gave Me Birth  Tom Trenney

Mothering God, you gave me birth in the bright morning of this world. Creator, source of every breath, you are my rain, my wind, my sun. Mothering Christ, you took my form, offering me your food of light, grain of life and grape of love, your very body for my peace. Mothering Spirit, nurturing one, in arms of patience hold me close so that in faith I root and grow until I flower, until I know.

(Text: Jean Janzen, based on Julian of Norwich)

The Great Thanksgiving

Leader: The Lord be with you.

Holy, holy, holy Lord. God of power and might, heaven and earth are full of your glory, hosanna in the highest. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest, hosanna in the highest.
