THE CALL TO CONFESSION

THE PRAYER OF CONFESSION

Merciful God, we confess that we have not followed your way. You are always faithful to us, yet we pursue our own desires. You are generous beyond measure, yet we jealously hoard your gifts. Forgive us, God of grace. Help us to comprehend the height and depth and breadth of your great love for all; through Jesus Christ our Lord.

A MOMENT OF SILENCE (for examination of conscience and personal prayers of confession)

THE ASSURANCE OF PARDON

Leader: The river of God’s mercy runs deeper and wider than our sin.

People: God removes our sins as far as the heavens are above the earth.

Leader: Beloved in the risen Christ, believe the good news of the gospel.

People: We are forgiven.

- Psalm 103

*THE CONGREGATIONAL RESPONSE  (Hymn 83)

For us he rose from death again; for us he went on high to reign; for us he sent the spirit here to guide, to strengthen, and to cheer.

*THE PASSING OF THE PEACE

Leader: The peace of the Lord Jesus Christ be with you all!

People: And also with you.

THE ANTHEM  Great Is Thy Faithfulness  arr. Gilbert M. Martin

Nan Nowell, soloist

Great is thy faithfulness, O God my father! There is no shadow of turning with thee; thou changest not; thy compassions they fail not; as thou hast been thou forever wilt be. Great is thy faithfulness, great is thy faithfulness, morning by morning new mercies I see; all I have needed thy hand hath provided. Great is thy faithfulness, Lord, unto me! Summer and winter, and springtime and harvest, sun, moon and stars in their courses above join with all nature in manifold witness to thy great faithfulness, mercy and love. Pardon for sin and a peace that endureth, thy own dear presence to cheer and to guide; strength for today and bright hope for tomorrow, blessings all mine, with ten thousand beside. (Refrain) (text: T. O. Chisolm)

† Children exit the Sanctuary for Children’s Worship.

*THE APOSTLES’ CREED

I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; he descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen.

THE PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE AND THE LORD’S PRAYER

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen.
