WORSHIP JUNE 10 2018
8:45 A.M. WORSHIP

THE GATHERING

Leader: The Lord be with you.

People: And also with you.

THE PRELUDE  Prelude on ST. COLUMBIA  Edward Forrest

*THE CALL TO WORSHIP

Leader: I will extol you, my God and King, and bless your name forever and ever.

People: Every day I will bless you, and praise your name forever and ever.

Leader: Great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised; God’s greatness is unsearchable.

People: One generation shall laud your works to another and shall declare your mighty acts.

Leader: On the glorious splendor of your majesty and on your wondrous works, I will meditate.

People: Let us worship God, our creator, redeemer and sustainer.

*THE OPENING HYMN 145  Rejoice, Ye Pure in Heart  MARION

THE CALL TO CONFESSION

THE PRAYER OF CONFESSION

Holy God, from the day we were created, you invited us to place our trust in you. You invited us to trust that your mercies will never fail. You invited us to trust that your sustaining providence will fill all our needs. You wanted us to know that we may fully rely on you. And yet we don’t. We look elsewhere for comfort and security. We fill our need to feel secure with money, or looks, or fleeting sensuality. But all of these comforts will fail, because you alone are eternal. You alone are in all, and through all, and above all. So remind us of your sustaining goodness. Remind us of your perpetual care of all of creation. Forgive our anxious mistrust, and create in us clean hearts, hearts that are bound to you and no other. Amen.

A MOMENT OF SILENCE (for examination of conscience and personal prayers of confession)

THE ASSURANCE OF PARDON

Leader: Have you not known? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the creator of the ends of the earth. He does not faint or grow weary; his understanding is unsearchable.

People: He gives power to the faithful and strengthens the powerless. Even youths will faint and be weary, and the young will fall exhausted, but those who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength, they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint.

Leader: Believe the promise of the Gospel:

People: In Jesus Christ, we are forgiven! -Isaiah 40:28-31

*THE CONGREGATIONAL RESPONSE  (Hymn 171)

Perverse and foolish oft I strayed. But yet in love he sought me. And on his shoulder gently laid. And home, rejoicing brought me.

*THE PEACE OF CHRIST

Leader: May the peace of Jesus Christ be with you all!

People: And also with you.

(The signs of the peace may be exchanged.)
