THE GATHERING

Leader: The Lord be with you.

THE PRELUDE  Prelude on “Lobe den Herren”  Paul Manz

Rev. Dr. Jonathan Crutchfield, organist

*THE CALL TO WORSHIP

Leader: Let the sea roar, and all that fills it; the world and those who live in it.

People: Let the floods clap their hands; let the hills sing together for joy at the presence of the LORD.

Leader: God is coming to judge the earth.

People: God will judge the world with righteousness, and the peoples with equity.

- Psalm 98

*THE PROCESSIONAL HYMN 482  Praise Ye the Lord, the Almighty  LOBE DEN HERREN

THE CALL TO CONFESSION

THE PRAYER OF CONFESSION

Almighty God, you love us, but we have not loved you. You call, but we have not listened. We walk away from neighbors in need, wrapped in our own concerns. We do not reach out across lines of difference. So often we do not see the other as beautifully and wonderfully made. God of grace, help us to admit our sin, so that as you come to us in mercy, we may repent, turn to you and receive forgiveness; through Jesus Christ our Redeemer.

A MOMENT OF SILENCE (for examination of conscience and personal prayers of confession)

THE ASSURANCE OF PARDON

Leader: Jesus calls to us saying, “Abide in my love”.

People: We are called friends, because Christ has made known to us the will of God.

Leader: This day and always, hear the good news of the gospel:

People: In Jesus Christ we are forgiven.

-John 15:9-17

*THE CONGREGATIONAL RESPONSE (Hymn 118)

Our hears be pure from evil, that we may see aright the Lord in rays eternal of resurrection light, and, listening to his accents, may hear, so calm and plain, his own “all hail!” and, hearing, may raise the victor strain.

*THE PASSING OF THE PEACE

Leader: The peace of the Lord Jesus Christ be with you all!

People: And also with you.

THE CONCERNS OF THE CHURCH

THE MINUTE MESSAGE  Beth Fain

THE ANTHEM  My Shepherd Will Supply My Need  arr. Mac Wilberg

Barbara Cook, oboe; Jim Zellers, flute

My shepherd will supply my need, Jehovah is his name. In pastures fresh he makes me feed beside the living stream. He brings my wandering spirit back when I forsake his ways, and leads me for his mercy’s sake in paths of truth and grace. When I walk through the shades of death, they presence is my stay: one word of they supporting breath drives all my fears away. Thy hand, in sight of all my foes, doth still my table spread, my cup with blessings overflows, thine oil anoints my head. The sure provisions of my God attend me all my days; o may thy house be mine abode and all my work be praise! There would I find a settled rest while others go and come, no more a stranger, nor a guest, but like a child at home.

(Text: Paraphrase of Psalm 23 by Isaac Watts)
