Leader: The Lord be with you.

People: And also with you.

THE PRELUDE  Welcome, Happy Morning  Setting by Wilbur Held

Rev. Dr. Jonathan Crutchfield, organist

*THE CALL TO WORSHIP

Leader: How good and pleasant it is when God’s people live together in unity!

People: It is as if the dew were falling on God’s mountain.

Leader: For there the LORD bestows his blessing, even life forevermore.

People: How very good and pleasant it is when kindred live together in unity!

Leader: Let us worship our God together.

*THE OPENING HYMN 104  Christ is Risen! Shout Hosanna!  HYMN TO JOY

THE CALL TO CONFESSION

THE PRAYER OF CONFESSION

God of mercy, we come celebrating our unity, but we confess the many ways that we are divided. Too often we allow our differences to obscure the common calling we share in Christ’s name. Forgive our tendency toward separation and division, and remind us that we are your Easter people. Open our eyes to see the many signs of your love for us. Lead us from self-interest to love of neighbor, so we may build communities that witness to your love. Amen.

A MOMENT OF SILENCE (for examination of conscience and personal prayers of confession)

THE ASSURANCE OF PARDON

Leader: If anyone does sin, we have an advocate with God in Jesus, who is perfectly righteous.

People: Chris is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the sins of the world.

Leader: Believe the good news!

People: In Jesus Christ, we are forgiven.

*THE CONGREGATIONAL RESPONSE (Hymn 113)

Lives again our glorious king: Alleluia! Where, O death , is now your sting? Alleluia! Jesus died, our souls to save; Alleluia! Where your victory, O grave? Alleluia!

*THE PEACE OF CHRIST

Leader: May the peace of Jesus Christ be with you all!

People: and also with you.

(The signs of the peace may be exchanged.)

THE PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE AND THE LORD’S PRAYER

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen.

*THE HYMN  In Times of Great Decision  AURELIA

1. In times of great decision, be with us, God, we pray! Give each of us a vision of Jesus’ loving way. When louder words seem endless and other voices sure, remind us of your promise: your love and truth endure.

2. O God, who’s gifts are countless, you send us bearing peace. You fill our dreams with justice for all communities. You give us global neighbors that all may justly live. May those we choose as leaders reflect the life you give.

3. O God, you bridged the distance; you opened wide your door. You call us by our presence to reach and serve the poor. You teach us: welcome strangers! Seek justice on the earth! May those we choose as leaders see every person’s worth.

4. You call on every nation to put aside all greed, to care for your creation and for your ones in need, to care for those in prison, for children, for the ill. In times of great decision, may we choose leaders well.
