8:45 A.M. WORSHIP

THE GATHERING  Dr. Mardee Rightmyer

THE PRELUDE  Partita on “Ascended Triumph” - Mvt. 2  Robert Hobby

*THE CALL TO WORSHIP

Leader: Our hearts are steadfast, O Lord, our hearts are steadfast; we will sing and make melody.

People: Awake, my soul! Awake, O harp and lyre! I will awake the dawn.

Leader: We will give thanks to you, O Lord, among the peoples, and we will sing praises to you among the nations.

People: Your steadfast love is higher than the heavens, and your faithfulness reaches to the clouds.

Leader: Let us worship God, our maker, redeemer and sustainer. Amen.

-Psalm 108:1-4

*THE OPENING HYMN 263  Immortal, Invisible, God Only Wise  ST. DENIO

Verses 1 and 2

THE CALL TO CONFESSION

THE PRAYER OF CONFESSION

Eternal God, you have called us into a way of living that is transformed, but we have not lived up to our calling. You have shown us your way for our lives – a way marked by newness of heart and spirit, but we cling what we know. We have not lived as though your grace is sufficient for all our needs. So forgive us, we pray. For-give us, and bring us to that place of childlike love and friendship to which you have called us. Through Jesus Christ our Lord we pray, Amen.

A MOMENT OF SILENCE  (for examination of conscience and personal prayers of confession)

THE ASSURANCE OF PARDON

Leader: Therefore highly exalted Jesus, and gave him the name that is above every name,

People: So that at the name of Jesus, every knee should bend, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

Leader: Believe the promise of the Gospel:

People: In Jesus Christ, we are forgiven. -Philippians 2:9-11

*THE CONGREGATIONAL RESPONSE  (Hymn 473)

For the joy of human love, brother, sister, parent, child, friends on earth, and friends above, for all gentle thoughts and mild, Lord of all, to thee we raise this our hymn of grateful praise.

*THE PEACE OF CHRIST

Leader: May the peace of Jesus Christ be with you all!

People: and also with you.

(The signs of the peace may be exchanged.)
