11 A.M. WORSHIP

THE GATHERING  Ms. Emma Neishloss

THE PRELUDE  Come, Thou Fount of Every Blessing  Michael Burkhardt

Rev. Dr. Jonathan Crutchfield, organist

*THE CALL TO WORSHIP

Leader: Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth;

People: Break forth into joyous song and sing praises.

Leader: Sing Praises to the Lord with the lyre, with the lyre and the sound of melody.

People: With trumpets and the sound of the horn make a joyful noise before the King, the Lord.

Leader: Let us worship God, our creator, redeemer and sustainer. Amen.

-Psalm 98:4-6

*THE PROCESSIONAL HYMN 356  Come, Thou Fount of Every Blessing  NETTLETON

THE CALL TO CONFESSION

THE PRAYER OF CONFESSION

Eternal God, you are from everlasting to everlasting. You, the creator of heaven and earth extend from the furthest reaches of the universe to the depths of Sheol. Yet, we blur the lines between creator and creation and think that we are the authors of our own blessings. But you alone are eternal, you alone are the source of all life and all good. We are chastened and we ask forgiveness. Return us to your marvelous image, remind us that we are fearfully and wonderfully made, and call forth from us the commitment you would have us bring, through Jesus the Christ we pray, Amen.

A MOMENT OF SILENCE (for examination of conscience and personal prayers of confession)

THE ASSURANCE OF PARDON

Leader: I appeal to you, therefore, brothers and sisters, by the mercies of God to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship.

People: Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your minds, so that you may discern what is the will of God – what is good and acceptable and perfect.

Leader: Believe the promise of the Gospel:

People: In Jesus Christ, we are forgiven! - Romans 12:1-2

*THE CONGREGATIONAL RESPONSE (Hymn 426)

O fill me with thy fullness, Lord, until my very heart o’er-flow in kindling thought and glowing word, thy love to tell, thy praise to show.

*THE PASSING OF THE PEACE

Leader: The peace of the Lord Jesus Christ be with you all!

People: And also with you.

THE CONCERNS OF THE CHURCH

(Visitors and members are invited to sign the blue friendship register pad and pass it down the pew.)

THE GOSPEL LESSON  John 1:43-51  (page 87 in the pew Bible, NT)

THE ANTHEM  Psalm 139  Allen Pote

Lord, you have searched me and known me, you know everything I do. When I rise up, when I lie down, you are with me through and through. Before a word is on my tongue, you know what I will say, your presence follows me day by day. Where can I flee from your spirit? Where can I go to run away? If I go to heaven, or live in hell, you are there. Search me, O God, and know me, try me and know my heart. See if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting. Amen.

THE PSALTER LESSON  Psalm 139:1-6; 13-18  (page 545 in the pew Bible, OT)

THE SERMON  Hemmed In  Rev. Dr. Baron Mullis

*THE APOSTLES’ CREED

I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; he descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen.

THE PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE AND THE LORD’S PRAYER

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen.
