THE GATHERING  Mardee Rightmyer

THE PRELUDE  “Simple Gifts” — Mvt. 1  Noel Goemanne

*THE CALL TO WORSHIP

Leader: I will sing of your steadfast love, O Lord, forever;

People: with my mouth I will proclaim your faithfulness to all generations.

Leader: I declare that your steadfast love is established forever;

People: your faithfulness is as firm as the heavens.

Leader: Let us worship our God, who creates, redeems and sustains us.

-Psalm 89:1-2

*THE PROCESSIONAL HYMN 473  For the Beauty of the Earth  DIX

Verses 1, 2 and 4

THE CALL TO CONFESSION

THE PRAYER OF CONFESSION

Gracious God, we confess there are times when faith is not easy. There are times when the claim of the Gospel upon our lives is costly. There are times when we would turn aside onto an easier path rather than face what your promises would elicit from us. Forgive when in our living we fail to do and be what you have called for from us. Forgive us when we cannot remember that it is you who have carried us through the years. And in forgiving us, give us encouragement that we may be strengthened in our faith and live out the calling you have given us. We pray all these things in Jesus’ name and for his sake. Amen.

A MOMENT OF SILENCE (for examination of conscience and personal prayers of confession)

THE ASSURANCE OF PARDON

Leader: If anyone is in Christ, there is a new creation. The old has passed away; the new has come.

People: All this is from God, who reconciled himself to us through Christ and has given us the ministry of reconciliation.

Leader: That is, in Christ God was reconciling the world to himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and entrusting the message of reconciliation to us. Believe the Promise of the Gospel:

People: In Jesus Christ, We are forgiven! -2 Corinthians 5:17-19

*THE CONGREGATIONAL RESPONSE (Hymn 304)

Jesus loves me! This I know, for the Bible tells me so; little ones to him belong: they are weak, but he is strong. Yes, Jesus loves me! Yes, Jesus loves me! Yes, Jesus loves me! The Bible tells me so.

*THE PEACE OF CHRIST

Leader: May the peace of Jesus Christ be with you all!

People: And also with you.

(The signs of the peace may be exchanged.)
