WORSHIP OCTOBER 1 2017
11 A.M. WORSHIP

THE GATHERING  Eliza Smith

Leader: The Lord be with you.

People: And also with you.

THE PRELUDE  In Thee is Gladness  arr. Diane Bish

*THE CALL TO WORSHIP

Leader: The earth is the Lord’s and all that is in it, the world and those who live in it; for God has founded it on the seas and established it on the rivers.

People: Who shall ascend the hill of the Lord and who shall stand in God’s holy place?

Leader: Those who have clean hands and pure hearts, who do not lift up their souls to what is false, and do not swear deceitfully.

People: They will receive blessings from the Lord, and vindication from the God of their salvation.

Leader: Such is the company of those who seek God, who seek the face of the God of Jacob. Let us worship God, who creates, redeems and sustains us. Amen.

-Psalm 24:1-6

*THE PROCESSIONAL HYMN 478  Praise My Soul, the King of Heaven  LAUDA ANIMA

THE CALL TO CONFESSION

THE PRAYER OF CONFESSION

Holy God, you are the same from age to age. In every age, your people have sought to know you and to know your mind and your will for us. And in every age, we have had times when what we have said and done reflected the way you would have us live, and we have had times when what we have said and done did not reflect the way you would have us live. Through it all, you are faithful to us. And so we confess our failures knowing that we rest in your abiding goodness, assured of your love for us all. Hear our prayers as we make them in Jesus’ name and for his sake. Amen.

A MOMENT OF SILENCE  (for examination of conscience and personal prayers of confession)

THE ASSURANCE OF PARDON

Leader: By grace you have been saved through faith, and this is not your own doing: it is the gift of God - not the result of works, so that no one might boast.

People: For we are what he has made us, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand to be our way of life.

Leader: Believe the promise of the Gospel:

People: In Jesus Christ, we are forgiven. -Ephesians 2:8-10

*THE CONGREGATIONAL RESPONSE  Hymn 280

Through many dangers, toils, and snares, I have already come; ‘tis grace has brought me safe thus far, and grace will lead me home.

*THE PEACE OF CHRIST

Leader: The peace of the Lord Jesus Christ be with you all!

People: And also with you.

THE MINUTE MESSAGE  Emily O’Brien

THE ANTHEM  Draw Us in the Spirit’s Tether  Harold Friedell

Draw us in the Spirit’s tether; for when humbly, in thy name, two of three are met together, thou art in the midst of them: Alleluia! Touch we now thy garment’s hem. As the brethren used to gather in the name of Christ to sup, then with thanks to God the Father break the bread and bless the cup, Alleluia! So knit thou our friendship up. All our meals and all our living make as sacraments of thee, that by caring, helping, giving, we may true disciples be. Alleluia! We will serve thee faithfully.

The Great Thanksgiving

Leader: The Lord be with you.

People: And also with you.

Leader: Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.

People: It is right to give thanks and praise.

Sanctus (Hymn 581)
