WORSHIP JULY 2 2017
10 A.M. WORSHIP

THE GATHERING  Mardee Rightmyer

Leader: The Lord be with you.

People: And also with you.

THE PRELUDE  Wondrous Love  David N. Johnson

*THE CALL TO WORSHIP

Leader: O sing to the Lord a new song; sing to the Lord, all the earth.

People: Sing to the Lord, bless God’s name; tell of God’s salvation from day to day.

Leader: Declare God’s glory among the nations, God’s marvelous works among all the peoples.

People: For great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised; God is to be revered above all Gods. For all the gods of the people are idols, but the Lord made the heavens.

Leader: Let us worship God, who creates, redeems and sustains us. Amen. - Psalm 96: 1-5

*THE PROCESSIONAL HYMN 288  I Sing the Mighty Power of God  ELLACOMBE

THE CALL TO CONFESSION

THE PRAYER OF CONFESSION

Holy God, you have called us. You have called us to a way of life set apart from the ordinary. You have called us to be “a light to the nations.” You have called us to grateful generosity, to faithful discipleship, to holy living. Yet in our sin, we do not live out our calling. Our reasons many, we cannot and need not name them all; you know our faults. Yet in faith, we ask that you would forgive us once more, and remind us of our holy calling, that we might show forth the light of the one who has called us out of darkness, our Lord Jesus Christ, in whose name we make our prayer, Amen.

A MOMENT OF SILENCE  (for examination of conscience and personal prayers of confession)

THE ASSURANCE OF PARDON

Leader: We know that the one who raised the Lord Jesus will raise us also with Jesus, and will bring us with you into his presence.

People: Yes, everything is for your sake, so that grace, as it extends to more and more people may increase thanksgiving, to the glory of God.

Leader: Believe the promise of the Gospel:

People: In Jesus Christ, we are forgiven. - 2 Corinthians 4:14-15

*THE CONGREGATIONAL RESPONSE  (Hymn 357)

In hope that sends a shining ray far down the future’s broad’ning way: in peace that only thou canst give, with thee, O Master, let me live.

*THE PASSING OF THE PEACE

Leader: The peace of the Lord Jesus Christ be with you all!

People: And also with you.

THE CONCERNS OF THE CHURCH  Tony Fishpaw

THE FIRST LESSON  Psalm 89:1-4  (page 516 in the pew Bible, OT)

THE ANTHEM  Antiphon (from “Five Mystical Songs”)  Ralph Vaughan Williams

Let all the world in every corner sing, my God and King. The heavens are not too high, his praise may thither fly; the earth is not too low, his praises there may grow. The church with psalms must shout, no door can keep them out: but above all, the heart must bear the longest part.
(text: George Herbert)

THE SECOND LESSON  Psalm 13  (page 468 in the pew Bible, OT)

THE SERMON  “How Long, O Lord? (Really, How Long!?)”  Baron Mullis

THE OFFERTORY  “If With All Your Hearts (from “Elijah”)”  Felix Mendelssohn

John Young, tenor

*THE DOXOLOGY AND PRAYER OF DEDICATION  OLD HUNDREDTH

Praise God from whom all blessings flow; Praise God all creatures here below; Praise God, ye saints, for evermore; Praise Triune God whom we adore. Amen.

THE SACRAMENT OF THE LORD’S SUPPER

Invitation

The Great Thanksgiving

Leader: The Lord be with you.

People: And also with you.

Leader: Lift up your hearts!

People: We lift them to the Lord.

Leader: Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.

People: It is right to give thanks and praise.

Leader: It is truly right…

And with our loved ones, separate from us now, who yet in this mystery
are close to us, we join in the song of your unending greatness.

The Sanctus (Hymn 581)

Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of power and might, heaven and earth are full of Your glory, hosanna in the highest. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest, hosanna in the highest.
