THE CALL TO CONFESSION

THE PRAYER OF CONFESSION

Eternally gracious God, we confess that we are sinners. Whether through our actions or our inaction, the good news you have entrusted to us has not cracked our hearts nor escaped our lips. We question how you can love us and love others. Calamities make us question you rather than ourselves. Our trust is limited. We are not sure you can be trusted. And yet, we have heard rumors of what you can do. We long to be shown again. We need to be cleansed of our unbelief, forgiven our sins, and sent on our way flush with your goodness. We pray this trusting in your mercy and for the sake of our Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.

A MOMENT OF SILENCE (for examination of conscience and personal prayers of confession)

THE ASSURANCE OF PARDON

Leader: I appeal to you, therefore, brothers and sisters, by the mercies of God to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship.

People: Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your minds, so that you may discern what is the will of God – what is good and acceptable and perfect.

Leader: Believe the promise of the Gospel:

People: In Jesus Christ, we are forgiven! - Romans: 12:1-2

*THE CONGREGATIONAL RESPONSE (Hymn 455)

And everyone of tender heart, forgiving others, take your part. O sing ye! Alleluia! Ye who long pain and sorrow bear, praise God and cast on God your care! Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia!

*THE PASSING OF THE PEACE

Leader: The peace of the Lord Jesus Christ be with you all!

People: And also with you.

THE EPISTLE LESSON  Ephesians 1:15-23 (page 181 in the pew Bible, NT)

THE ANTHEM  I Want to Walk as a Child of the Light  arr. Jonathan Crutchfield

I want to walk as a child of the light. I want to follow Jesus. God set the stars to give light to the world. The star of my life is Jesus. In him there is no darkness at all, the night and the day are both alike. The Lamb is the light of the city of God. Shine in my heart, Lord Jesus. I want to see the brightness of God. I want to look at Je-sus. Clear sun of righteousness, shine on my path, and show me the way to the Father. (refrain) I’m looking of the coming of Christ. I want to be with Jesus. When we have run with patience the race, we shall know the joy of Jesus. (refrain) (text: Kathleen Thomerson)

THE GOSPEL LESSON  Luke 24:44-53  (page 85 in the pew Bible, NT)

THE SERMON  “Continually Blessing God”  Baron Mullis

*THE HYMN 487  When Morning Gilds the Skies  LAUDES DOMINI

*THE APOSTLES’ CREED

I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; he descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen.

THE PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE AND THE LORD’S PRAYER

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen.
