Leader: Open to me the gates of righteousness, that I may enter through them and give thanks to the LORD.

People: This is the Lord’s doing; it is marvelous in our eyes.

THE CALL TO CONFESSION

THE PRAYER OF CONFESSION

God of the insignificant and unimportant, how easy it is to get excited when the parade starts to form. Jesus appears, we cut the palm branches and throw our own clothes on the road to form a path. It is a delight to follow when following is easy. But too soon, too soon, the crowd scatters. The hosannas fade. The words that form in our lips are, “I know the man not.”

Be with us, Lord, when on our sin we confuse what it means to follow. Show us again how you are in the small things – the murmured word of kindness, the gentle touch of the hand, eye-contact held and returned. Remind us once more that you are as much our God in the mundane moments and the quiet days as the trumpets. And reminding us, enable us to follow you, even to the foot of the cross. Amen.

THE ASSURANCE OF PARDON

Leader: This is the message that we heard from God and proclaim to you, that God is light and in God is no darkness at all.

People: If we say that we have fellowship with God while we are walking in darkness, we lie and do not do what is true. But if we walk in the light as God Himself is in the light, we have fellowship with one another and the blood of Jesus, God’s Son, cleanses us from all sin.

Leader: Believe the promise of the Gospel:

People: In Jesus Christ, we are forgiven! -1 John 1:5-7

THE CHILDREN’S ANTHEM  Hosanna to the Lord  Becki Slagle Mayo

Hosanna, hosanna, hosanna in the highest. All Glory, laud, and honor to you, Redeemer King; to whom the lips of children made sweet hosannas ring. The Cherub and Treble Choirs; Jonathan Crutchfield, director

*THE PASSING OF THE PEACE

Leader: The peace of the Lord Jesus Christ be with you all!

People: And also with you.

*THE APOSTLES’ CREED

I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; He descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen.

THE PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE AND THE LORD’S PRAYER

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen.
