WORSHIP FEBRUARY 26 2017
11 A.M. WORSHIP

THE GATHERING  Beth Waltemath

Leader: The Lord be with you.

People: And also with you.

THE PRELUDE  Prelude in A Minor  César Franck

*THE CALL TO WORSHIP

Leader: The LORD is king; let the peoples tremble! God sits enthroned upon the cherubim; let the earth quake!

People: The LORD is great in Zion; God is exalted over the peoples. Let them praise your great and awesome name. Holy is the LORD!

Leader: Mighty King, lover of justice, you have established equity; you have executed justice and righteousness in Jacob.

People: Extol the LORD our God; worship at God’s footstool. Holy is the LORD! Moses and Aaron were among God’s priests, Samuel also was among those who called on the Lord’s name. They cried to the LORD, and God answered them.

Leader: God spoke to them in the pillar of cloud; they kept God’s decrees, and the statutes that God gave them.

People: O LORD our God, you answered them; you were a forgiving God to them, but an avenger of their wrongdoings.

Leader: Extol the LORD our God, and worship at his holy mountain; for the LORD our God is holy. - Psalm 99

*THE PROCESSIONAL HYMN 263  Immortal, Invisible, God Only Wise  ST. DENIO

THE CALL TO CONFESSION

THE PRAYER OF CONFESSION

Almighty God, you alone are holy. You alone are greater than our minds can conceive. You alone are the beginning and end. You are a holy mystery beyond explanation, and worthy of worship. We confess that we fail to worship you as you are. We blur the distinction between creator and creation and we lapse into idolatry as we seek to impose our image of who you are in place of holy mystery. Forgive us, we pray and open our minds to new realities of who you are and how you extend grace. Through Jesus Christ our Lord we pray, Amen.

THE ASSURANCE OF PARDON

Leader: The grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation to all, training us to renounce impiety and worldly passions, and in the present age to live lives that are self-controlled, upright and Godly, while we wait for the blessed hope and the manifestation of the glory of our great God and savior, Jesus Christ.

People: He it is who gave himself for us that he might redeem us from all iniquity and purify for himself a people of his own who are zealous for good deeds.

Leader: Believe the promise of the Gospel:

People: In Jesus Christ, we are forgiven. Amen -Titus 2:11-14

*THE CONGREGATIONAL RESPONSE (Hymn 601)

Of old you gave your solemn oath to father Abraham: whose seed a mighty race should be and blest forevermore, you vowed to set your people free from fear of every foe, that we might serve you all our days in goodness, love, and peace.

*THE PEACE OF CHRIST

Leader: The peace of the Lord Jesus Christ be with you all!

People: And also with you.

*THE APOSTLES’ CREED

I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; he descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen.

THE PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE AND THE LORD’S PRAYER

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen.
