WORSHIP JANUARY 8 2017
11 A.M. WORSHIP

THE GATHERING  Beth Waltemath

Leader: The Lord be with you.

People: And also with you.

THE PRELUDE  In Dulci Jubilo  J.S. Bach

*THE CALL TO WORSHIP

Leader: O sing to the Lord a new song; sing to the Lord, all the earth.

People: Sing to the Lord, bless God’s name; tell of God’s salvation from day to day.

Leader: Declare God’s glory among the nations, God’s marvelous works among all the peoples.

People: For great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised; God is to be revered above all Gods. For all the gods of the people are idols, but the Lord made the heavens.

Leader: Let us worship God, who creates, redeems and sustains us. Amen. -Psalm 96: 1-5

*THE PROCESSIONAL HYMN 63  As With Gladness Men of Old  DIX

THE CALL TO CONFESSION

THE PRAYER OF CONFESSION

Holy God, we know that today, as much as any day, we may rest in the promises of our baptism—we know that your grace rests on us always. Never for a moment are we outside of your constant care as you are always with us. And yet, things happen. Life tumbles in and we forget that you are beside us, in front of us, within us. We retreat into fear. We worry about what we cannot change. Forgive our anxious fears. Lead us to be the people you created us to be: disciples of Jesus Christ, in whose name we name our prayers, Amen.

A MOMENT OF SILENCE (for examination of conscience and personal prayers of confession)

THE ASSURANCE OF PARDON

Leader: Have you not known? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the creator of the ends of the earth. God does not faint or grow weary; God’s understanding is unsearchable.

People: God gives power to the faint and strengthens the powerless. Even youths will faint and be weary, and the young will fall exhausted; but those who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength, they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint.

Leader: Believe the promise of the Gospel:

People: In Jesus Christ, we are forgiven! - Isaiah 40: 28-31

*THE CONGREGATIONAL RESPONSE (Hymn 66)

Glorious now behold him arise, king and God and sacrifice: Alleluia, alleluia sounds through the earth and skies. O star of wonder, star of night, star with royal beauty bright; westward leading still proceeding, guide us to thy perfect light!

*THE PEACE OF CHRIST

Leader: The peace of the Lord Jesus Christ be with you all!

People: And also with you.
