WORSHIP JULY 24 2016
11 A.M. WORSHIP

THE GATHERING  Matt Frease

Leader: The Lord be with you.

People: And also with you.

THE PRELUDE  Intermezzo, Opus 118, #2  Johannes Brahms

*THE CALL TO WORSHIP

Leader: O sing to the Lord a new song; sing to the Lord, all the earth.

People: Sing to the Lord, bless God’s name; tell of God’s salvation from day to day.

Leader: Declare God’s glory among the nations, God’s marvelous works among all the peoples.

People: For great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised; God is to be revered above all gods. For all the gods of the people are idols, but the Lord made the heavens.

Leader: Let us worship God, who creates, redeems and sustains us. Amen

-Psalm 96:1-5

*THE PROCESSIONAL HYMN 477  Ye Servants of God, Your Master Proclaim  HANOVER

THE CALL TO CONFESSION

THE PRAYER OF CONFESSION

Holy God, we know that we have separated ourselves from you through the depth of our sin. We know that you call us into honest expression of faith and we settle instead for what is comfortable, what is safe. You know us, and love us still. Forgive our sin, and reassure us of your abiding love, which fails not, and call us each into greater relationship with you. We make this and all of our prayers through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

A MOMENT OF SILENCE  (for examination of conscience and personal prayers of confession)

THE ASSURANCE OF PARDON

Leader: I appeal to you, therefore, brothers and sisters, by the mercies of God to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship.

People: Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your minds, so that you may discern what is the will of God—what is good and acceptable and perfect.

Leader: Believe the promise of the Gospel:

People: In Jesus Christ, we are forgiven! -Romans: 12:1-2

*THE CONGREGATIONAL RESPONSE  Hymn 576

Gloria, gloria, in excelsis Deo. Gloria, gloria, alleluia, alleluia.

Gloria, gloria, in excelsis Deo. Gloria, gloria, alleluia, alleluia.

*THE PEACE OF CHRIST

Leader: The peace of the Lord Jesus Christ be with you all!

People: And also with you.

Come, my Way, my Truth, my Life; Such a Way as gives us breath, Such a Truth as ends all strife, Such a Life as killeth death. Come, my Light, my Feast, my Strength; Such a Light as shows a Feast, Such a Feast as mends in length, Such a Strength as makes his guest. Come, my Joy, my Love, my Heart; Such a Joy as none can move, Such a Love as none can part, Such a Heart as joys in love.
(text: George Herbert) Brandon Odom, baritone

THE APOSTLES’ CREED

I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ his only son our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; he descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead, I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

THE CHORAL LORD’S PRAYER  Albert Hay Malotte

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen.
