THE PRELUDE  “Procession”  (from Partita on DIADEMATA) Charles Callahan

*THE CALL TO WORSHIP

Leader: Clap your hands, all you peoples; shout to God with loud songs of joy.

People: For the Lord, the Most High, is awesome, a great king over all the earth.

Leader: God has gone up with a shout, the Lord with the sound of a trumpet.

People: Sing praises to God, sing praises; sing praises to our king, sing praises.

Leader: For God is the king of all the earth. Let us worship the Triune God.

-Adapted from Psalm 47

*THE PROCESSIONAL HYMN 142  All Hail the Power of Jesus’ Name!  CORONATION

THE CALL TO CONFESSION

THE PRAYER OF CONFESSION

Holy God, we see your divine fingerprints on all creation. We are in awe of the mysteries of the universe and humbled by the limits of our own understanding. At times we are struck by the awesomeness of your holy work. But at other times, because of the power of sin in our lives, we rebel against you, ignoring your presence and power in the world. We become lost in our own yearnings. We confuse the spiritual gifts you have given us with our own achievements. Thank you for your grace and for continuing to care for us and teach us through the power of your holy word and the work of your Spirit. Help us to obey in faith and love.

A MOMENT OF SILENCE (for examination of conscience and personal prayers of confession)

THE ASSURANCE OF PARDON

Leader: Those who love me, I will deliver, says the Lord; I will protect those who know my name.

People: When they call to me, I will answer them; I will be with them in trouble, I will rescue them and honor them.

Leader: With long life I will satisfy them, and show them my salvation. Receive the good news of the gospel:

People: In Jesus Christ we are forgiven. -Psalm 91:14-16

*THE CONGREGATIONAL RESPONSE (Number 155)

God’s kingdom cannot fail, Christ rules o’er earth and heaven; the keys of death and hell are to our Jesus given. Lift up your heart, lift up your voice! Rejoice, again I say, rejoice!

THE APOSTLES’ CREED

I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ his only son our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; he descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead, I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

THE PASTORAL PRAYER AND THE LORD’S PRAYER

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen.
