*THE CALL TO WORSHIP

Leader: Praise the Lord! Praise the Lord from the heavens; praise him in the heights!

People: Praise him, all his angels, praise him, all his hosts!

Leader: Praise him, sun and moon; praise him, all you shining stars!

People: Praise him, you highest heavens, and you waters above the heavens!

Leader: Let them praise the name of the Lord, for he commanded and they were created.

People: God established them forever and ever; the Lord fixed their bounds, which cannot be passed.

Leader: Let us worship God, our creator, redeemer and sustainer.

-Psalm 148:1-6

*THE PROCESSIONAL HYMN 482  Praise Ye the Lord, the Almighty  LOBE DEN HERREN

THE VBS CHILDREN’S ANTHEM  “I’m in Awe of You”  Matt Huesmann

THE CALL TO CONFESSION

THE PRAYER OF CONFESSION

Holy God, we know that we may rest in the promises of our baptism – we know that your grace rests on us this day and every day. Never for a moment are we outside of your constant care. And yet, things happen. Life tumbles in and your promises seem distant. We retreat into fear. We worry about what we cannot change. Forgive our anxious fears. Lead us to be the people you created us to be, disciples of Jesus Christ, in whose name we name our prayers, Amen.

A MOMENT OF SILENCE (for examination of conscience and personal prayers of confession)

THE ASSURANCE OF PARDON

Leader: So if you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God.

People: Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth, for you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God.

Leader: When Christ who is your life is revealed, then you also will be revealed with him in glory. Believe the promise of the Gospel:

People: In Jesus Christ, we are forgiven. -Colossians 3:1-4

*THE CONGREGATIONAL RESPONSE (Hymn No. 332)

Live into hope of captives freed from chains of fear or want or greed. God now proclaims our full release to faith and hope and joy and peace.

The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want; He maketh me to lie down in green pastures; He leadeth me beside the still waters. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for you are with me, you will comfort me. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life; and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.
(Megan Mashburn, soprano)

THE APOSTLES’ CREED

I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ his only son our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; he descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead, I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

THE PASTORAL PRAYER AND THE LORD’S PRAYER

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen.
