WORSHIP APRIL 10 2016
11 A.M. WORSHIP

THE GATHERING  Sarah Smith

Leader: The Lord be with you.

People: And also with you.

THE PRELUDE  Intermezzo H ugh Blair

*THE CALL TO WORSHIP

Leader: Praise the Lord! Praise the Lord from the heavens; praise him in the heights!

People: Praise him, all his angels, praise him, all his hosts!

Leader: Praise him, sun and moon; praise him, all you shining stars!

People: Praise him, you highest heavens, and you waters above the heavens!

Leader: Let them praise the name of the Lord, for he commanded and they were created.

People: He established them forever and ever, he fixed their bounds, which cannot be passed!

Leader: Let us worship God, our creator, redeemer and sustainer. - Psalm 148:1-6

*THE PROCESSIONAL HYMN 147  Blessing and Honor  O QUANTA QUALIA

THE CALL TO CONFESSION (Remain Seated)  Psalm 30  BEACH SPRING

Sing to God, that all may hear you! God, whose arms can lift and save; By your healing touch, revive us, life restore beyond the grave. Praise we now our sure salvation, God the holy One above; End the night so dimmed by anguish with the sunrise of Your love.

THE PSALTER HYMN OF CONFESSION  Psalm 30  BEACH SPRING

God, whose wrath we more than merit; God, whose grace we cannot earn; When the pride of human nature from Your way tempts us to turn, Then we cry to You for mercy, “Can the tomb repeat God’s praise?” Through Your goodness, yet redeem us, make us faithful all our days.

(text: Michael Morgan)

A MOMENT OF SILENCE (for examination of conscience and personal prayers of confession)

THE ASSURANCE OF PARDON

Leader: This is the message that we heard from him and proclaim to you, that God is light and in him is no darkness at all.

People: If we say that we have fellowship with him while we are walking in darkness, we lie and do not do what is true. But if we walk in the light as he himself is in the light, we have fellowship with one another and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin.

Leader: Believe the promise of the Gospel:

People: In Jesus Christ, we are forgiven.     -1 John 1:5-7

*THE CONGREGATIONAL PSALTER  Psalm 30  BEACH SPRING

Change our sorrow to rejoicing, clothe with gladness all despair; Cause unsteady feet that stumble now to dance beneath Your care. Dry the tears we shed in mourning, give us steadfast hope always; Fill our hearts with expectation, and our songs with thanks and praise.

(text: Michael Morgan)

* THE APOSTLES’ CREED

I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suf-fered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; he descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen.

THE PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE AND THE LORD’S PRAYER

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen.
