*THE PROCESSIONAL HYMN 488  The God of Abraham Praise  LEONI

THE CALL TO CONFESSION

THE PRAYER OF CONFESSION

Almighty, eternal God, how quickly we reduce you to an empty deity. How effi-ciently we regulate to you a place somewhere below household concerns. Our time of worship is fleeting, barely there, and too soon we “return to normal”. You want more of us. You offer us transformation but we grasp at what we know. Forgive us we pray, and make us want to be better servants. And wanting, empower us to do what you would have us do. We pray this in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.

THE KYRIE (Hymn 572)

Lord, have mercy upon us.

Christ, have mercy upon us.

Lord, have mercy upon us.

A MOMENT OF SILENCE (for examination of conscience and personal prayers of confession)

THE ASSURANCE OF PARDON

Leader: “So we do not lose heart. Even though our outer nature is wasting away, our inner nature is being renewed, day by day. For this slight momentary affliction is preparing us for an eternal weight of glory beyond all measure,

People: because we look not at what can be seen, but at what cannot be seen; for what can be seen is temporary, but what cannot be seen is eternal.”

Leader: Friends, believe the promise of the Gospel:

People: In Jesus Christ we are forgiven. -2 Corinthians 4:16-18

*THE CONGREGATIONAL RESPONSE (Hymn 582)

Dying, You destroyed our death: Rising, You restored our life. Lord Jesus, come in glory.

*THE PEACE OF CHRIST

THE CONCERNS OF THE CHURCH

THE OLD TESTAMENT LESSON  Isaiah 43:16-21  (page 632 in the pew Bible, OT)

THE SERMON  Jackals and Ostriches  Baron Mullis

* THE APOSTLES’ CREED

I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; he descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen.

THE PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE AND THE LORD’S PRAYER

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen.
