THE CALL TO CONFESSION

THE PRAYER OF CONFESSION

Eternal God, remind us of our baptism as we prepare to come to your table. As we prepare our hearts and our minds for the coming of the Christ-child, open our hearts to the mystery of your love incarnate. Remind us of your body given for us that we might know the depth and width of your love for humankind. And, where we have failed to love as you love, forgive us. Where we have lived only for ourselves, forgive us. Where we have hurt others intentionally, forgive us. Where we have offended others through omission, forgive us. Give us the grace to follow in the way you would have us go, through our Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.

A MOMENT OF SILENCE (for examination of conscience and personal prayers of confession)

THE ASSURANCE OF PARDON

Leader: Let the same mind be in you that was in Christ Jesus, who though he was in the form of God did not regard equality with God as something to be exploited, but emptied himself, taking the form of a slave, being born in human likeness. And being found in human form, he humbled himself, and became obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.

People: Therefore God also highly exalted him, and gave him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus, every knee should bend, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

Leader: Believe the Promise of the Gospel:

People: In Jesus Christ, we are forgiven! - Philippians 2:5-11

*THE CONGREGATIONAL RESPONSE (Hymn 9)

O come, thou dayspring, come and cheer our spirits by thine advent here; disperse the gloomy clouds of night, and death’s dark shadows put to flight. Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel shall come to thee, O Israel!
