THE LIGHTING OF THE ADVENT WREATH  The Jones Family

*Unison Prayer:

Eternal God, creator of all light and life, we give you thanks for HOPE in the coming of the Christ, the light that shines in the darkness, the life of all people. Let us walk in the light of the Lord. Amen.

*THE PROCESSIONAL HYMN 2  Come, Thou Long-Expected Jesus  HYFRYDOL

THE CALL TO CONFESSION

THE PRAYER OF CONFESSION

Eternal God, we have sought your blessing upon us, yet even as we ask, we know that we cannot merit it. Our lives stand, not as testimony to your goodness, but as reminders of our sin. We have failed at our calling to be your people and show to the world who you are. And so, in honesty we come seeking your healing touch upon our lives; your cleansing Word to our sin. Forgive us, we pray, for our failures, and help us live as though we are the recipients of grace upon grace. We ask in the name of Jesus, and for his sake. Amen.

A MOMENT OF SILENCE  (for examination of conscience and personal prayers of confession)

THE ASSURANCE OF PARDON

Leader: By grace you have been saved through faith, and this is not your own doing: it is the gift of God - not the result of works, so that no one might boast.

People: For we are what he has made us, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand to be our way of life.

Leader: Believe the promise of the Gospel:

People: In Jesus Christ, we are forgiven! - Ephesians 2:8-10

Rejoice in heaven, all ye that dwell therein; rejoice on earth, ye saints below, for Christ is coming soon! E’en so, Lord Jesus, quickly come, and night shall be no more; they need no light nor lamp nor sun, for Christ will be their all! - Revelation 22

*THE APOSTLES’ CREED

I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; he descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen.

THE PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE AND THE LORD’S PRAYER

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen.
