*THE CALL TO WORSHIP

Leader: Praise the Lord!

People: I will give thanks to the Lord with my whole heart, in the company of the upright, in the congregation.

Leader: Great are the works of the Lord, studied by all who delight in them,

People: full of honor and majesty is God’s work, and God’s righteousness endures forever.

Leader: God has gained renown by his wonderful deeds;

People: the Lord is gracious and merciful.

Leader: Then let us worship God, who creates, redeems and sustains us. Amen.

- Psalm 111:1-4

*THE PROCESSIONAL HYMN 483  Sing Praise to God, Who Reigns Above  MIT FREUDAN ZART

THE CALL TO CONFESSION

THE PRAYER OF CONFESSION

Eternal God, creator of the winds and rains, sun and moon, the earth and all that is in it, too often we utter your praises without pausing to consider what it is we sing. Too often, our words bear no evidence that we bear the imprint of your word. Too often, we mumble our joy, suppress our sorrow and live as though you do not matter. Forgive us, we pray, for our meaningless attempts to domesticate your transcendence. Break through into our hearts and lives and minds, and transform us by your power. Through Jesus Christ we pray. Amen.

A MOMENT OF SILENCE (for examination of conscience and personal prayers of confession)

THE ASSURANCE OF PARDON

Leader: By grace you have been saved through faith, and this is not your own doing: it is the gift of God - not the result of works, so that no one may boast.

People: For we are what he has made us, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared before hand to be our way of life.

Leader: Believe the promise of the Gospel:

People: In Jesus Christ, we are forgiven! - Ephesians 2:8-10

*THE CONGREGATIONAL RESPONSE (Hymn 554)

Let all things now living a song of thanksgiving to God our Creator triumphantly raise; who fashioned and made us, protected and stayed us, by guiding us on to the end of our days. God’s banners are o’er us, pure light goes before us, a pillar of fire shining forth in the night; till shadows have vanished, all fearfulness banished, as forward we travel from light into Light.

*THE PEACE OF CHRIST

(Children ages 3-10 are invited to leave after the Peace of Christ for special classes. Threes, fours & fives are in Room 011; K-1st grade in Room 001; 2nd-3rd grade in Room 003; 4th-5th grade in Room 005).

For the beauty of the earth, for the beauty of the skies, for the love which from our birth over and around us lies: Lord of all, to thee we raise this our joyful hymn of praise. For the beauty of each hour of the day and of the night, hill and vale and tree and flower, sun and moon and stars of light: (Refrain). For the joy of human love, brother, sister, parent, child, friends on earth and friends above, for all gentle thoughts and mild: (Refrain). For each perfect gift of thine to our race so freely given, graces human and divine, flower of earth and buds of heaven: (Refrain). - F. S. Pierpoint

*THE APOSTLES’ CREED

I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; he descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen.

THE PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE AND THE LORD’S PRAYER

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen.
