WORSHIP NOVEMBER 1 2015
11 A.M. WORSHIP

THE GATHERING  Sarah Smith

Leader: The Lord be with you.

People: And also with you.

THE PRELUDE  Shall We Gather at the River  Robert Lowry/arr. Jason Krug

Handbell Choir (Jeff Peters, director)

*THE CALL TO WORSHIP

Leader: Lord, you have been our dwelling place in all generations.

People: Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever you had formed the earth and the world, from everlasting to everlasting, you are God.

Leader: You turn us back to dust, and say, ‘Turn back, you mortals.’ For a thousand years in your sight are like yesterday when it is past, or like a watch in the night.

People: The days of our life are seventy years, or perhaps eighty, if we are strong; even then, their span is only toil and trouble, they are soon gone, and we fly away.

Leader: Let us worship the eternal God, creator, redeemer and sustainer. Amen.

- Psalm 90:1-4,10

*THE PROCESSIONAL HYMN 522  Lord, When I Came Into This Life  LAND OF REST

THE CALL TO CONFESSION

THE PRAYER OF CONFESSION

Eternal God, remind us of our baptism as we prepare to come to your table. Remind us of your eternal love poured out for all of creation. Indeed, you are our dwelling place in all generations. And yet, there are moments when your eternal care of all that you have made does not come to mind: Suffering leaves us in doubt. Death leaves us lonely. Our own lives conspire to leave us wondering if you really are with us always, even to the end of the age. Forgive our doubts and heal our fears – remind us once more of the profound promises on which our faith rests, the promises of your eternal love and grace. We make these and all our prayers in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.

A MOMENT OF SILENCE (for examination of conscience and personal prayers of confession)

THE ASSURANCE OF PARDON

Leader: Death has been swallowed up in victory.

People: Where, O death, is your victory? Where, O death, is your sting?

Leader: The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law.

People: But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

*THE CONGREGATIONAL RESPONSE (Hymn 443)

This is the moment glorious when he who once was dead shall lead his church victorious, their champion and their head. The Lord of all creation his heavenly kingdom brings, the final consummation, the glory of all things.
