WORSHIP OCTOBER 11 2015
11 A.M. WORSHIP

THE PEALING OF THE BELLS  Festival  Cynthia Dobrinski

Handbell Ensemble (Jeff Peters, director)

THE GATHERING  Anna Miles

Leader: The Lord be with you.

People: And also with you.

THE PRELUDE  Prelude in G Major, BWV 541  J.S. Bach

Mason Copeland, organist

*THE CALL TO WORSHIP

Leader: O sing to the Lord a new song; sing to the Lord, all the earth.

People: Sing to the Lord, bless God’s name; tell of God’s salvation from day to day.

Leader: Declare God’s glory among the nations, God’s marvelous works among all the peoples.

People: For great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised; God is to be revered above all Gods. For all the gods of the people are idols, but the Lord made the heavens.

Leader: Let us worship God, who creates, redeems and sustains us. Amen. - Psalm 96:1-5

*THE PROCESSIONAL HYMN 356  Come, Thou Fount of Every Blessing  NETTLETON

THE CALL TO CONFESSION

THE PRAYER OF CONFESSION

Eternal God, our sin is before us. Where you have shown us your kingdom, we have been quick to move on, to dismiss miracles and teachings and return to things as usual. Where you have taught us by example, we have not allowed those teachings to become our way of life. We dwell in darkness where you have called us to light. Forgive us we pray, and transform us. Allow our lives to reflect the light of your grace for all people, in order that we may be a light to the nations, keeping us always in your care. In Christ’s name we pray. Amen.

A MOMENT OF SILENCE  (for examination of conscience and personal prayers of confession)

THE ASSURANCE OF PARDON

Leader: So then, brothers and sisters, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh for if you live according to the flesh, you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live.

People: For all who are led by the Spirit of God are children of God.

Leader: For you did not receive a spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received a spirit of adoption. When we cry, "Abba! Father!" it is that very spirit bearing witness with our spirit that we are children of God,

People: And if children, then heirs, heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ if, in fact, we suffer with him so that we may also be glorified with him.

Leader: Believe the promise of the Gospel:

People: In Jesus Christ, we are forgiven! - Romans 8:12-17

*THE APOSTLES’ CREED

I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; he descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen.

THE PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE AND THE LORD’S PRAYER

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen.
