THE CALL TO CONFESSION

THE PRAYER OF CONFESSION

Holy God, the Bible shows us countless examples of your care for creation and countless examples of the ways humans have not trusted you, instead doubting your power, care and faithfulness. As your people fled captivity in Egypt you provided bread in the wilderness; still they feared, stressed and complained. Your son, Jesus, did deeds of great power and compassion; still the disciples did not understand your grace has no limits. Forgive us for the ways our sin has caused us to stumble, caused pain for others, and caused hurt to you. Help us to live always as your faithful disciples, trusting you and joining with your church as we stumble together upon the sin and brokenness in the world, bringing hope and your healing. Amen.

A MOMENT OF SILENCE (for examination of conscience and personal prayers of confession)

THE ASSURANCE OF PARDON

Leader: We know that the one who raised the Lord Jesus will raise us also, and will bring us into his presence.

People: Yes, everything is for our sake, so that grace, as it extends to more and more people, may increase thanksgiving, to the glory of God.

Leader: Believe the promise of the Gospel:

People: In Jesus Christ, we are forgiven. - 2 Corinthians 4:14-15 (adapted)

THE ANTHEM  God of Grace and God of Glory  Paul Langston

God of grace and God of glory on thy people pour thy power: Crown thine ancient church’s story, bring her bud to glorious flower. Grant us wisdom, grant us courage, for the facing of this hour! Lo! the hosts of evil round us scorn thy Christ, assail his ways! Fears and doubts too long have bound us, free our hearts to work and praise. Grant us wisdom, grant us courage for the living of these days! Set our feet on lofty places: Gird our lives that they may be armored with all Christ-like graces in the fight to set men free. Grant us wisdom, grant us courage, that we fail not man nor thee! Amen. - Harry Emerson Fosdick

*THE APOSTLES’ CREED

I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; he descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen.

THE PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE AND THE LORD’S PRAYER

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen.
