*THE CALL TO WORSHIP

Leader: Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth. Worship the Lord with gladness, come into his presence with singing.

People: Know that the Lord is God. It is he that made us, and we are his, we are his people and the sheep of his pasture.

Leader: Enter his gates with thanksgiving, and his courts with praise. Give thanks to him, bless his name.

People: For the Lord is good, his steadfast love endures forever, and his faithfulness to all generations.

Leader: Let us worship God who creates us, redeems us and sustains us. - Psalm 100

*THE PROCESSIONAL HYMN 151  Crown Him with Many Crowns

THE CALL TO CONFESSION

THE PRAYER OF CONFESSION

Eternal God, in every age you have raised up men and women to live and die in faith. We confess that we are indifferent to your will. You call us to proclaim your name, but we are silent. You call us to do what is just, but we remain idle. You call us to live faithfully, but we are afraid. In your mercy, forgive us. Give us the courage to follow in your way, that joined with those from ages past, who have served you with faith, hope and love, we may inherit the kingdom you promised in Jesus Christ. Amen.

A MOMENT OF SILENCE (for examination of conscience and personal prayers of confession)

THE ASSURANCE OF PARDON

Leader: This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, says the Lord;

People: “I will put my laws in their hearts, and I will write them on their minds,”

Leader: He also adds,

People: “I will remember their sins and their lawless deeds no more.”

Leader: Where there is forgiveness of these, there is no longer any offering for sin. Believe the promise of the Gospel:

People: In Jesus Christ, our sins are forgiven! - Hebrews 10:16-18

*THE CONGREGATIONAL RESPONSE (Hymn 579)

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost; As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen, Amen.

THE OLD TESTAMENT LESSON  2 Samuel 11:26-12:13 (page 272 in the pew Bible, OT)

THE ANTHEM  God Is Seen  arr. Alice Parker

Liz Rice, Guest Conductor

Through all the world below God is seen all around; search hills and valleys through, there he’s found. The growing of the corn, the lily and the thorn, the pleasant and forlorn all declare God is there. In meadows drest in green, God is seen. See springing waters rise, fountains flow, rivers run; the mist that veils the sky hides the sun. Then down the rain doth pour, the ocean, it doth roar and beat upon the shore, and all praise, in their ways, the God who ne’er declines his designs. The sun with all his rays speaks of God as he flies. The comet in her blaze, “God!” she cries. The shining of the stars, the moon, when she appears his awful name declare; see them fly, through the sky and join the solemn sound all around.

THE GOSPEL LESSON  John 6:24-35 (page 92 in the pew Bible, NT)

THE HOMILY  “Bread of Life”  Baron Mullis

THE HYMN 510  Jesus, Thou Joy of Loving Hearts

*THE APOSTLES’ CREED

I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; he descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen.

THE PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE AND THE LORD’S PRAYER

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen.
